I didn't actually follow Atkins, but I got a list of which foods contain carbohydrates and how much and went on a diet that was as close to zero carbs as I possibly could. That diet and gave me plenty of food and the energy to exercise. I used a Nordic Track machine, but any vigorous exercise will work. Anyway, I took off over 100 pounds on that diet and exercise regimen in about 18 months. The problem is that once I got off the diet the pounds crept back on and after about 10 years I had put about 50 of those pounds back on. Still ahead of the game, but now I am on a more normal diet of simply eating less and exercising more and taking the pounds off more slowly.

I read atkins back in 1998 and have done some form of carb restriction ever since then. Yes it works, but I’m a lot less of an anti carb guy than I used to be. There’s definitely a balance depending on the body I think. For me, if I keep carbs to 150 or less daily, I can lose weight or maintain. If I get down to low, sure I really lose weight, but at the expense of my hormones. And I’ve done blood work verifying this. Probably the sweet spot is 100 ish carbs daily. For me anyway. My wife is like a sugar ant and is as slim as the day I met her. If you listen to her, “it’s all about moderation”. Probably truth in that, but I struggle to moderate!

I've lost enough weight I was able to order an IWB holster for a double stack .45 ACP because my pants are now that loose and my belts ran out of holes.

Definitely slacking on the diet here of late. I'll get back on track though because like America, I need more winning!

I'm still sticking to the Carnivore type diet... but cheese does find its way in every now and then.
Lifting a little but nothing crazy. I have been doing 24 hour fast just about every day, and just did my firs 48 hour fast this week.
Fighting the desire to snack in the evenings has been the only issue. I'm not hungry, just bored.
I'm down a little over 20 lbs in 8 weeks. Just 22 more to go to reach my first goal of sub 200.

My wife ran it last year. I walked around, talked with people, and cheered her on when she finally came around the bend.

I saw one ambulance depart, saw one guy with a broken nose, and heard of a girl falling and sliding face-first down a rocky hill, but a guy grabbed her leg as she passed by and stopped her slide. I saw one guy climb a rope maybe 15 feet up, slip, and fall the whole way down! He didn't look hurt as he jumped right up and ran off.

Apparently there was a yellow-jacket nest on one section of trail that several Spartans "found."

The 5 km or 5 mile, whatever my wife ran, there was like a 4 foot tall plywood barrier right at the start you had to get over. That probably would have stopped me. LOL

    Latest update:

I HAVE TO WEAR MY WIFE'S CLOTHES.

Big snow this morning so I put on my ski pants that were tight last month but now fit perfectly. I put on my belt......it's so loose it's useless, simply so loose it's not a "belt" anymore. So I try my wife's We the People Holsters belt....forget what you call it but you pull it through and put a latch down....infinite number of tightening options....very nice. So I am so thin I have to wear my wife's belt! :bananadance:

Shoveled a bit, moved dad's truck, plowed the driveway, a neighbor's driveway, the road to our neighborhood and most of another neighbor's driveway. Once I can feel my feet again and my boots dry enough, I'll go back out.

Wife tells me I no longer snore as loudly as I did. I suspect once I am thin enough, the snoring will cease entirely as that only started about 2014 when I stopped teaching ski lessons. (Nothing gets and keeps you fit like skating uphill to round up your hesitant ski students).

I am this close to my first goal of sub 200 lbs. I have about 24 more hours to go on a 72 hour fast. I'm thinking I should be under 200 by tomorrow morning.

    Gainer,

So how tall are you? LOL

My wife does those fasts....I may at some point. Doing pretty well staying on track today. Congrats on the weight loss. There truly is a conspiracy against health and fitness. Truly there is.

5'10" & will be 59 later this year.

BMI Chart says I should be 173 or less. I don't think that's gonna happen!

    5'10" and 200 pounds?

My guess is, without seeing your body or a BMI chart for that matter, but ya, 170 is probably the better weight for someone 5'10".

I had sprained my ankle rather badly in 2011 then went on Atkins' and lost 25 pounds. 2012 I had the best skiing of my life even though the left ankle wasn't what it used to be. I did a lot of cardio each day but no weight lifting. At 5'9" and 160 pounds, I found it very easy to roll back up onto my skis from lying on the ground (um, ice).

*Part of my ski lesson was to show the students how to fall down on purpose and get up three different ways without removing one's skis.
