Just curious if anyone else is experiencing a rough idle while in drive? When I’m stopped at a light my engine rpm’s dip close to 500 and bounce back up to about 700 several times per minute. This is at operating temp with about 1800 miles on it built in November 2023. I’m wondering if there is a TSB out or if anyone else has had this issue fixed. It runs fine otherwise.

I would suggest logging in to the Toyota owners website. Enter your information and you will be able to see any open TSB or recalls for your vehicle. Haven’t been keeping up much with the 3rd gen threads however this is the first I have heard of this issue.

Bad gas can make things run bad.... not sure like that but 1800 miles is nothing.

My Nov 2023 build 1794 did exactly that the other day. Has not done it since. But I did get a gas fill in between, so it could be related to the previous gas fill. I'll keep an eye on it. Good catch.

I have noticed if I am completely stopped with the brake firmly pressed it will be 500rpm but if I start to creep forward or even not hold the brake as firmly the RPM can jump up.

Glad I’m not the only one. I also notice when I stop and put it in Park and press the button to turn off, it sounds very faintly like the starter kicks in for a half second. Im wondering if the idle and the starter error have to do with the auto start stop programming or this TSB - T-SB-0110-22 related to trans programming.
I remember reading others had a weird off/start situation when parked with seatbelt off/ door open.

I get that sound if I don’t turn off the “start/stop” when parking. That’s when you will typically get the most brake pressure. If I disable it, that won’t happen when parking. Just another reason to disable it every time.

mine does this almost daily. it seems to be related to "spirited driving", if i'm somewhat aggressive on the gas and brakes in between red lights it will do this, if i drive it like i'm 80 it usually doesn't happen. 33k miles on mine so far and it has been happening since the week i got it. Drive mode does not matter and i disable auto start stop every time i drive it.

My 2023 Platinum idles rough. What's weird is it'll idle rough for a few seconds and then go smooth for a few seconds then back to rough and on and on.

I believe Motortrend mentioned this about the Tundra in the latest truck of the year comparison.

I took mine into the dealer a few weeks ago and had all the recalls done, one of the updates took care of it. the service writer said it was something to do with the electronic waste gate not closing correctly or all the way- i don't recall. He said he used to see that problem a lot on the IS's when he was at the lexus dealer.

That’s good news. Do you happen to have any paperwork or info regarding the recalls/TSB’s they corrected? Mine goes in next Monday for a couple other issues and will add this to the list if they will fix it. Thanks for the info

I’m hoping I can get the dealer to clear up the rough idle on my truck. If you were able to send a picture or any more information about what they did to fix that problem I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

Did anyone else receive an update or fix for their rough idle issues? When I took mine in to the dealership I told the service advisor about it, shared I had a couple videos of it bouncing between 500 to 700 rpm and that you could feel it missing when idling. When the mechanic looked at it he said it was from the auto stop start system. I call BS and had the stop/start turned off in the video and usually do every time I drive it but had to get my truck back. I’m only at 3500 miles so will try again at the next oil change

I’m seeing this problem with my ‘24. I am surprised to read the posts deeming this normal. Of course experiences can be quite different but I can say without a doubt what my truck is doing is NOT normal. I’ve got 9K on my 1794 and 3 or 4 times now when I have cranked the truck it has had a very rough idle, enough that I was expecting the truck to turn off. The whole truck slightly shakes when this is happening. The other thing that has strangely happened is the exhaust has let out A LOT of smoke after cranking a couple of times when I’ve started it, not the first start of the day, both times were leaving work for lunch or at the end of the day. I searched the FB group and saw a few people saying it was just condensation in the exhaust. Again I am surprised to hear people be so dismissive, I can also say that in my case it is abnormal and not just condensation. This has occurred over multiple tanks of gas so I know it’s not bad gas, but that was my first thought.
I’m gonna plug in the Carista to see if there are any codes. Out of the many vehicles I’ve owned none of them have behaved this way except the first but it was an 82 Z28 that was really made for a track and not the street.

    What color is the smoke?

I’d say it is gray. I wish I had gotten video of it but I can never get my phone out quickly enough. From now on I guess I will have the phone camera ready just in case.
When it’s happened I’ve just all of a sudden seen a crap load of smoke floating by and then turned to realize it was coming from me/my exhaust!

Having the same exact issue with my 2024 1794. Every now and then I’ll get a puff of bluish / gray smoke at startup and today I was idling in a parking lot for after a 30 min drive and noticed the truck started stumbling almost to the point of stalling. Looked out the side view mirror to see the same bluish / gray smoke coming from my exhaust. Just had my 10k mile service completed at the dealership yesterday too. They’re telling me they need to open a case with Toyota to see how they should proceed because I just purchased the truck in December.
