Is there a way to determine the gear ration in the differentials without counting the teeth? I tried counting the number of times the driveshaft turned with one revolution of the rear tires. Driveshaft only turned about 2.5 times. I was never a math whiz but something seems wrong. If my truck supposedly has 5.29 gears shouldn't the driveshaft have turned as many times?

Hey, I don't think too many folks are going to see this as the day get going...

I'd try re-posting this question in the following thread for maximum exposure; quite a few folks in there w/5.29s...

What have you done to your 2.5 gen Tundra today?

What size tires do you have, and what is your rpm at 65

The type of differential (open vs. posi/limited slip) needs to be factored in to determine gear ratio. Link below

Thank you for all the information. Now I’m scratching my head even more cause supposedly a Powertrax Grip Pro was installed but when lifting both rear tires off the ground, as stated earlier, makes me wonder why one tire spins in the opposite direction like an open diff.

Doesn’t the Powertrax require a certain speed before it kicks in? I would think it would still act like an open diff if you’re spinning wheels off the ground.

Normal, the tire spinning opposite directions determines if you use the multiplier. I have the Grip Pro with 5.29, same as open differential till there is enough torque to engage it. It is sitting in the air right now, went out and checked to verify, got a little more than 2.5 turns on the driveshaft x 2 = 5.29.

@CrazyE Got sick of working on the truck so made a video. Pink mark on tire and 2 pink marks on driveshaft 180 degrees apart, the other tire is on the ground. Didn’t make any difference with both in the air. Little bit more than 2.5 turns on driveshaft. Know for a fact mine is 5.29 and Grip Pro, put the third member in myself.
