Not sure if it has happened to anyone else. 2011 5.7 IForce Tundra 363500 miles on my old girl.
So Friday on my out my check engine light came on with 4 lo flashing and track control light on as well.
Got the codes read at oreillys and local shop. Codes showed cylinder 3 permit miss fire 1,5,7 had miss fires. Local shop after talking to them said replace the coil packs. So I did 8 new coil packs check engine lights is off and staying off. But I noticed white smoke out the exhaust, after it sat all night. So I shut the truck off and checked my coolant the radiator was low half gallon.
I will need to get it confirmed by my local shop but the head gaskets is blown. I will keep you posted. Most likely going to fix it and then maybe look for a vehical to drive for work and keep my truck for truck stuff at home.

Sad enough, yes, but not exactly disappointing at that mileage. The average vehicle meets the crusher by now. But I agree with you, fix it up for what a few months payments of a new one would cost you, and carry on.

Sorry to hear your head gasket went. Just out of curiosity, how often did you change out your coolant?

Wondering if CCN's theory that acidic coolant is the reason some 3UR's head gaskets go holds water.

I would not take the truck back to the shop that said replace the coil packs. How they came to that conclusion is beyond me, sounds like they didn't do any diagnostic work at all.

I replaced a 5.7 engine at work a few months ago. Tundra had 300k miles. It's normal and expected at that mileage in my opinion. A Toyota engine that can go longer is the UZ engine family, like the 4.7L in the older tundras.

Watched the YouTube channel on the Toyota tech and he has seen a few with that milage go as well. Lucky no over heating or anything else. Hope I'm still good just to replace the gasket and move on.

They didn't do nothing other then what I asked when I pulled up and just ask his opinion. They read the codes something for me to try at home.

As long it never overheated you should be able to. Might make more sense to just swap in a used motor though

I've seen some folks on here say they've gotten used motors out of a wrecked truck with 60-80k miles for only like $3-4k. If I were in your boat I'd explore that before looking at $60k trucks
