    Hello all,

Looking to get 35" tires and the possible upgrading to 5.29 gears. Do I need to get front and rear gears if I upgrade or would just rears be okay? Would also get E lockers at the same time. Can the 5.7 handle the 35's with the stock gears okay?

Front and rear gears ABSOLUTELY MUST match ratios. Whether you can tolerate 35s on stock gears depends on how you drive. If you like to accelerate quickly, or plan to tow or haul any real weight, you'll probably appreciate the higher gear ratio. If you're commuting or running errands around town, you'll probably be fine stock.
If you're looking for offroading serious enough for lockers, maybe 4.88 gears are worth a look, because they will be marginally stronger.

Front and rear need to match. Could you do it at different times? Yes. But you’ll be unable use 4wd until they match. Easier to do it at one time.

The truck will handle 35’s with stock gears just fine. It’ll just be slower and downshift more under load.

Don’t do them at different times unless you remove the front driveshaft.

no need for a locker in the front. Just the rear. Powertrax or Eaton E locker are the only two I would consider.

for 35’s you will absolutely want 5.29 for any circumstance except maintaining 100 mph. If you consistently do that for any extended period of time then 4.88 would be the fear of choice.

feel free to call me directly with any questions. Happy to share knowledge and further explain my recommendations. 760-877-4234
