Honestly? I had the OEM head unit for 5 years; had Memphis Audio speakers all around, a 10" Kicker subwoofer shallow mount, JL Audio amp, etc. Just got an aftermarket head unit installed last week because a) I got tired last week of the 'hiss' and b) the head unit itself was constantly rebooting.

I should have just replaced the head unit YEARS ago. I keep/kept hearing how a 'good' amp/DSP would negate the need for an aftermarket head unit, and honestly, I call BS. The difference has been that big. Just being able to control the subwoofer alone, and the head unit having a dedicated sub output for bass, has made a GIGANTIC difference in quality.

TL;DR: You might just think about calling "Uncle" and getting an aftermarket head unit. I bought a Sony XAV-9000ES and could not be more pleased.

I'm going to try one more time tonight.....after that, if no joy, I'm going Rambo and getting a system that will rattle my dentures and fake hip.

Well, i returned the Kicker DSP amp (kicker told me no joy unless i go 4ohm speakers). Today, i received my BOSS Head Unit with wiring harness from Crutchfield. 1 hour later…….i have a 200% difference in sound. Stock speakers and amp. I’m actually surprised/impressed. Not enough to rattle my hip, but enough for my wife to come out and tell me turn it down from the house. Happy for now….will go with speakers and amp, but just not today.

So…..here's the tip: start at the Head Unit, change it out…..all easy from there. I went low-cost at $179 and the results are great.

    Thanks for the help, ya’ll.
