Hey everyone I hope this is in the right forum if not please let me know. Towards the end of this year I’m looking to buy 5.29 gears and get them installed, do any of you have a shop that you recommend in Arizona in the Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler area? Thank you appreciate it!

Erick and Ben at AzToypros took care of mine last year. I've had no issues since.

Make sure to take your gears to Ayers gear shop first to get Polished and Cryo treated

This. I just used them on my Motive 5.29 set. And I’m going to use gearinstalls.com aka Zuk up in Prescott for the install.

This is true, but you'll need to do leg work first.

Yeah, little bit of downtime, but def worth knowing the best guy for the job got it done. I’d at a minimum suggest REM polishing the gears before any gear work gets done.

Zuk (gearinstalls.com) near Prescott does impeccable work. You'll have to bring the differentials to him though, he only works on them if they're off the truck, doesn't remove/ install them from the vehicle.

    1. You can remove and take your stock diffs to Zuk if you have the ability to take them out and let the truck sit for a bit.
    2. Find spare diffs to have built by Zuk, then swap them out yourself (what I did), then sell your stocks as cores
    3. Find spare diffs (cores) to have built by Zuk, then have an offroad shop remove your stock and install your built diffs, then sell the stock cores.

Silly question but what is the benefit from polishing and cryo treating? From the little information I’ve read it makes gears stronger and the “break in” procedure isn’t needed, is that correct?

You’ll have to do the break in procedure yourself unless you get gears REM polished ahead of time. I think it was $150 a set when I had Ayers do it, and $50 each for cryo.

Ben/Erik at AZ Toy Pros might sell them pre-polished. But I think Ben only installs gears that are bought through him/State 48 Off-road

How do they do the break in for you? Just drive it around for 500 miles? Legitimately curious

I'm going with option 1 in my case, but I'm a little nervous about getting them up to him and back, and then installed, prior to Tundras to Sedona...

I think i misunderstood the question. Erick at AZ Toypros mentioned they would do some heat cycling driving within the first few miles after install. The remaining ~500 miles of driving would have been on the customer.

Cryo treatment straitens out the metal molecules so the the metal is stronger. You may or may not need this.

REM polishing takes that layer of metal off that will get cut in the break in process. Many benefits from this
    1. No need to perform the entire break in process.
    2. All that metal mush from the uncut process won’t be inside your diff housing. No matter how many times you drain n fill, you’ll never get it all out, and this can effect bearing life as well. So REM prevents this.

If you do both, I think it’s recommended to get the REM first, then cryo treatment. If you go with ZUK, ask him what he prefers. Truthfully unless you’re hammering the diff with high speed, cryo may not be justified. But REM, I’d def recommend.

Yup. Zuk was the one that sent me to Ayers gear shop. I guess he used to work with thos guys.

Another good thing about Cryo is it sets you up if you ever want to add a supercharger to your rig.
