You have obviously not been to SLC, UT in the winter.

IDK VTL, Swears was documented saying exactly this, full power on 87. My knowledge is not advanced enough to know how they do it.

but they also ran the 350 yota on regular gas and got way more power than the others back in the day, and also ran on regular when GM and Ram needed mid and premium, respectfully.

so its not new to Toyota, maybe they just have different goals or better engineering.

Im not seeing anybody spewing cost savings arguments though?, seems like an argument is being created

It was stated that lower emissions were the cause and demise of the V8 and lower emissions were better for the environment in some peoples views.

As far as MPG, nobody is trading their truck in to get better MPG, but when you do buy a new truck, it certainly doesn't suck to get better MPG, that was more the point.

In some individual cases, it's way more than 3-4, I had a pig 350 tundra for whatever reason, got 12-13 most times, max 15 highway. This truck gets 17-18 and 22+ on the highway, slightly lower on winter blend though.

Im not a MPG guy that much at all, Ive always stated that, but Im not going to complain about getting 5-8 better either.

OP stated that gen 2’s 13mpg avg is a complete joke and a colossal waste, and some of us pointed out that 16mpg avg is in no way a significant difference.

Seems like your difference is wider than the average of ~3mpg. Do you run the same mods (tires, lift/level, etc) on your new Tundra as on your old one?

ya, I always say that upfront, mine is/was not a normal spread, I just had a pig version before. There have always been a bunch of gen 2/2.5 that just got shit MPG no matter what you did, and then there were those that got much better, especially the after 2018 or so ones.

but for me, its what I have to compare and it's real, so I guess Ill take it.

but they are pretty much apples to apples to answer your question, 4x4 platinum crewmax short bed, no lift or suspension mods. The only difference to account for was some tire weight, both were 33" but one was load e and these are not, so that would account for maybe .5-1 mpg I would suspect. If I had 35"s or something, then it would be more but I did not ever have larger than 33"

so it is what it is, again, I never really cared that much, but Ill take the improvement, I've got 23+ on the highway with this one, pretty impressive.

Toyota likely does get the full (rated) power out of the 3.4L on 87 octane. That said it likely makes more on 93, just as even the NA 5.7 does as per DAP Tuning’s report on their testing of it years ago:

“As we have reported with every truck we have tested on, 4.6L, 4.7L, 5.7L, all run best on 91+ octane whether they are completely stock with stock tune, or tuned.

These engines pull 8-12 degrees of timing due to knock retard on 87 oct, 6-10 deg on 89oct, 2-6 deg on 9loct, and 0-2deg on 93oct. That is on a completely stock truck with factory tune.”

The Ford ecoboost is the same way. Put 93 in it and it will make more power even though is not “required”.

In regards to the EPA stuff, I will say it is pretty interesting that using a 2 stroke weed wacker for an hour produces the same amount of pollution as driving a 2011 6.2 V8 ford raptor 1,100 miles. I thought that was a wild report from a CARB study, if you believe it.

How many miles do you think you’d have to drive a 6.2L Ford Raptor to equal the same amount of pollution as setting a Tesla on fire?

I mean some of those Raptor miles have to be offset by the sheer joy of watching those stupid things burn. Tesla only exists the way it does because of an enormous corporate welfare / entitlement program of tax credits for electric cars. Remove the EPA emissions regulations incentivizing electric and then remove the EV tax credits and see how many EV companies are still standing in 18 months. lol

Whatever this forum told me to do

As a Tesla owner, I don’t enjoy any violence toward them

and these Teslas sold more than any other car in 2024

And yes, EV companies will suffer without credits

    but Tesla will still flourish

kinda hypocritical here, don't take away my V8, don't tell me what to buy and drive, cancel the EPA, but then....

ya fun to watch teslas burn,

    weak tea guys, do better.

I would never set fire to someone else’s vehicle because I have different ideas than the CEO of the company who made it. But apparently the people who used to buy them to signal their care for the environment are now organizing massively polluting attacks on Tesla vehicles and dealerships. Guess they don’t really care lol :notsure:

To answer my own question, I think it’s probably more miles than the ol’ Raptor’s got in her :D

That’s because it’s all virtue signaling and mind games. These people will do whatever the media tells them to without thinking. The government and media have figured out how to get us to obey without thinking.

Or people are just stupid. One of the two.

I don’t think a car can experience violence, just vandalism and arson. And trust me, I’d love to see the people doing the burning thrown in jail for years and years and years. Removing those thugs will make society a better place by any metric.

Tesla sold more government subsidized EVs, but are still around 2% market share even with the taxpayer funded welfare program to incentivize purchases. I don’t care if people love EVs, buy all you want, but Tesla (and consumers/buyers) shouldn’t be getting my tax dollars as part of their deal. I feel the same way about student loan forgiveness, same kind of welfare program for the upper middle class. Then again, I love Kid Rock and Taylor Swift, so the extremes of the political spectrum write me off as it is and that’s just fine with me. Lol

    I've owned 2 Tesla's.

both were/are flawless, fun, reliable. (both were Plaid versions)

I agree on the tax credits. 100% (We did not qualify for any)

and here's the hypocrisy. Credits were given because of EPA concerns/climate change/clean air/energy conservation/bullshit.

and the folks showing all the recent hate are the same greenies and left leaning crowd. weird huh?

the flip-floppy nature of a fickle public.

however...like you said...buy what you want.

the gov should not influence a free market with MY tax dollars

hence, my original comment about wanting a V8 pickup.

better yet....you get an extra tax credit if you add a S/C to your V-8

another credit if your displacement is over 400cu in.

duel 4 barrels Demons will exempt you from any tax liability at all.
