Been waiting over a month for what I thought was going to be OME Nitrocharger struts with the OME 2885 coils.....Nope. I had been calling the vendor I purchased from and finally got an answer to why it was taking so long a couple weeks ago. At about the same time my purchase was made Old Man Emu had completely discontinued the well-known Nitrocharger strut and replaced it with a new re-designed strut/shock. Because of this the vendor was not able to get their hands on what they expected and had to do some figuring out what the replacement parts were going to be (new part numbers, new specs, etc.). I just received the new parts (with new part numbers) and have found some minor interesting differences between the old and new.

    Coils:
I had picked the 2885 coils for my DC based on the info I found on the forums around here. New part #4002. Here's the differences at a glance -

    - #2885 spring rate = 590lbs/in #4002 spring rate = 588lbs/in
    - 2885 turns 9.75 4002 turns 9
    - 2885 bar diameter = .65" 4002 bar diameter = .7"
    - 2885 weight = 10.3lbs 4002 weight = 11lbs
    - 2885 finish - Gloss Black 4002 Finish - Matte Black

*the ARB webpage still list the 2885 coils as available, but the 2885 supposedly does not fit over the new strut as needed

    The Strut:
I don't have the old part number for the previous nitrocharger strut and can't provided side by side differences. When speaking to the vendor they explained the difference with the new is a slightly larger tube diameter (thus a wider wider coil diameter), an upgraded valve-body design, and new spring perch design that also allows for adjustment settings.
New part #93004. Specs from the ARB website -
    • Type Strut
    • Color Yellow
    • Bushes Rubber
    • Design Twin Tube
    • Body Size2.28 in
    • Extended Length 18.4 in
    • Compressed Length 13.3 in
    • Adjustable Strut Height 5 position
Struts came with 1/2" rings that are for the Height Adjustment spring perch feature built into the strut design. The vendor assembled my struts prior to shipping and said they set it so that it would have been the same as the previous strut model, and achieving the 2.5" of lift. The old nitro strut did not have the adjustable height feature.

Evidently the new strut has been around for about a year, but this particular vendor was not completely aware of it affecting the fitment of their advertised front lift for the 1st Gen Tundra. Personally I am glad they sorted it out. Hoping to get around to installing it in a couple weeks, and I'll update with anything of interest.

Hopefully they changed the valving in the new strut. IMO, the Nitrocharger was WAY too stiff for my liking, which is why I went with Bilstein 5100s with 2884s on my AC. Sounds like OME came up with an adjustable perch like the 5100s, which is another reason I went with the Billys. Let us know how it goes. I'm curious to hear what the ride is like.

The vendor told me the new valve body design allows for faster compression, so maybe that's what they had in mind.
