Anyone come across this issue? Just recently, the gas door doesn't stay closed. It basically stays ajar about a half inch. I don't notice anything obvious that could be wrong with it. See the picture for example.

I had that happen to my tundra intermittently, turned out the gas cap tether was kinked and pushing against the door. Once I untwisted it, it was fine.

I did look at that initially and messed around with it. Maybe I need to give that another go.

The door in our Sequoia did the same. The hinge had gunk in it and needed a little cleaning + elbow grease persuasion

This. Every time i fill up i had to move it around then the door close just fine. Worse during winter because the tether gets stiff.

This happened to mine, dealer had to replace the spring in the door. They replaced the entire thing, but only the spring was the issue they found when swapping it over.

Spring commonly gunks up or rust. You can buy a stainless one on Amazon or eBay. It's not too difficult to replace

Anyone make a quality fuel door cover? I'm searching for a fix like OP may do the spring but a cover seams like it would fit the Tundra best.

Lay on the ground and look up under the truck by the fuel door with a flashlight. You should be able to see the spring mentioned in that youtube video posted above. I did this and noticed the spring was extremely rusted. Next, I replaced it with a stainless spring and the door now closes completely. Search ebay for "tundra spring door" and make sure it comes with an e-clip.

For another $1.99 you can get 2...:eek2::cool:
If I were to buy those I'd put them somewhere so that I wouldn't forget where I put them.
Then when I needed them, I wouldn't remember where that place was..:eek2::D

Just got done replacing the spring on my 21. 15mins job. Super simple. Mine was missing the C-clip from factory. I dont know if it fell out or someone forgot to put it in. But it’s better now. When you close the lid, it actually shut. The factory spring seems weak and would not “shut” when closed. No “snap” in.
    $10 for 2 springs and c-clips.

Well, it has been repaired. The spring was nearly rusted through and broke as I was taking it out. I'm actually surprised that the new spring is larger than the old one. Not sure if it has been updated or if it is just a shitty part manufacturer. Either way, it works now. It was a bit of a pain getting the spring out of the plastic hole. All in all, it probably took about 15 minutes.

Did your factory had the C retaining clip installed?

That is so strange. My ‘21 and buddy’s ‘16 was also “missing”. I dont know if it came from factory like that?

    It was definitely robbed.
Lay on your back with a flash light. Look straight up and see how crusty the spring is.

we replaced my buddy’s 2016 sr5 with 78k and the spring, although not broken through yet, was pretty crusty and rusted.
