    06 JDM Camper Tundra
After going through pretty much every possible JDM camper over the last 2 decades, we finally settled on one that does it all. 1st gen 06 Tundra that was shipped to Japan from the US, sent to the Toyota factory for a frame extension and camper conversion all in the same factory. Higher GVW after it rolled off the floor. Full tech documentation from Toyota for every little thing on the truck and camper. I’ve always been a fan of Toyo’s but this was done on another level. Plate is 3/10 made. I’ve seen two others down south over the last 18 years and finally found one earlier this year. From the Toyota dealer (friend of mine in Japan) he said a high level manager at Toyota in Japan purchased 10 Tundra’s from the US back in 2008 (04-06 models both 2wd and 4x4), had them shipped over to their factory. 04-06 SR5 long bed models, had the frames extended about 18”, larger leaf packs, air bags and raised the GVW. Then transferred over to their camper division and built them. That person/team had a lot of $ back then to do it.

Gave it an OME full suspension lift, replaced the standard suspension consumables, gave it a tune and hit the road a few weeks ago.

Smooth on the highway and sitting at 13-14mpg even at 70-80mph which was surprising.

Inside the camper is a california king sized bed up top, typical comfortable Toyota seating in the back for an additional 3 people w seatbelts. Table and dining room. We pulled out the tiny generic dometic camper kitchen and built our own with panasonic micro/oven/air fryer, cooktop induction, hot water via HE already routed in the back for a 2nd heater, full wet bath and tons of storage. Powering the systems via Ecoflow Delta pro 3 and two renogy 400ah Rego batteries total of 15kwh of kickass power - charging via EV fast charger 0-100% in an hour and costs under $2.

Still under the rated GVW at 7,700 lbs. Heavy duty airbags and the OME suspension definitely make it feel less like a camper and more like a plain ol Tundra with a loaded bed.

Size wise, it’s about a 3/4 size of a typical american slide in camper but inside the layout feels like the biggest one I’ve seen. They did a great job on weight and functionality.

Just made it back to Squamish BC after a 4,500 mile successful road trip. 1.jpg

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! I bet someone could do the same with a late 2.5 Gen and make some good money off of it.

We plan to keep the camper and transfer it on a newer gen down the road but it will be a long time from now as it’s only got 40k miles
