Can anyone tell me why the exhaust on 3rd gen is exits out of the drivers side?

I don’t know that I’ve ever noticed exhaust exiting the drivers side of any vehicle.

probably don’t matter but I’m sure there is a reason?

250,000 miles and always adding more :)
I could be wrong, but I think they moved the gas tank to the passenger side to get a more even 50/50 weight distribution split between left and right sides of the truck.

The 2nd gen models are known for having a drivers side "lean" due to excessive weight on the drivers side, so I'm assuming they decided to try to fix it on the newer models.

Moving the gas tank to the passenger side would require rerouting the exhaust, so that'd be my first guess :)

I have an AWE exhaust on order and realized the other day while cruising down the highway that when I am in the hammer lane that the exhaust will be pointed right at the concrete median, should make for some good exhaust sounds.

more than I can list here
The reason it’s on the driver side is to pass federal sound level requirements. The testing device is on the curb side of the vehicle during testing.

Not sure of the reason, but yes, gas tank on passenger side.
Not enough room to route exhaust on the same side.

Fuel tank on passenger side and fuel door on drivers side?

As far as I’m aware most every, if not all Toyota’s have always had exhaust routing to the right or right rear of the vehicle. When I started shopping the 3rd gen Tundra, that’s something that caught my eye in regards to any Toyota I’ve owned in the last 40 years. As mentioned before, I believe it was something to do with the fuel tank placement as primary along with other components and the exhaust routing was of least concern.

Don’t make a shit to me I just thought it was weird. This is the first vehicle I’ve seen where it exits the drivers side.
