So I purchased a 2008 Tundra Crewcab 4x4 for $4.5k over the weekend, the dealer had stated that it needed a new transmission. I live in Idaho and drove to Fargo ND to pick the truck up, it didn't start, just turned on and I had to use the pulley to get it onto the trailer and then back home.

Once home I troubleshot and replaced the fuse that goes from the ignition to the Park Neutral safety switch on the side of the transmission. It now starts just fine and the motor sounds perfect. Well when attempting to drive it most of the time is almost has no power and doesn't want to go from a stop until about 25mph (though rarely it seems to drive normally). Once it gets to that point, even if I slow down past 25mp it seems to drive just fine. It also doesn't want to go higher than about 50mph (I didnt realize this until I got on the freeway this morning)... When I switch it from drive to "S" it always starts in 4th gear (not sure if that is normal)...

For codes it was only showing P0705 transmission range sensor 'a' circuit (prndl input), and C1201 status: current/history - engine control system malfunction, with the dash lights of VSC off and the check engine light being steady, and the 4lo light blinking. But after driving it for a bit once the fuse was replaced all the lights went away though it was still hard to get started accelerating from a stop. But once it was going it seemed to drive perfectly.

This morning when I was driving it to be diagnosed at the shop when I was at a stop light I was curious and put it in 4hi, it ran perfectly, no lag in getting started or anything, you wouldn't have known there was an issue. Once I got to 25mph I switched off 4hi. I then got on the freeway (probably not the smartest move)... and it wouldn't go over 50 it just sounded and felt like that wasn't a good idea.

At this point all the lights that had turned off on their own showed up again. I ran my diagnostic tool and it pulled P0761 shift solenoid 'c' performance/stuck off, P0781 1-2 shift, P2714 pressure control solenoid 'd' performance/stuck off, C1201 status: current/history - engine control system malfunction.

The mechanic did diagnostics which pulled 21 transmission codes (the attached images) and sent me on my way to the transmission shop. The transmission shop now has my truck and has about a 2 week wait so we will see what he says. Just curious if anyone has come across this or similar. Thanks all.

Before buying any sensors. Change your transmission fluid, drain and fill, no flush with something other than OEM. Check level and drive it about 1,000 miles or a month. Change oil once again. Pinned transmission thermostat is about 4.5 quarts. Unpinned its 3.5 quarts. Wait another month or 2 and do 1 more fluid change. This should clear most of the old fluid. Then follow a 20k to 30k oil change interval based on oil manufacturer specs.
I went with Royal Purple and after about 200 miles transmission feel and shifts improve greatly. Hope this helps

Honestly, I don’t think I’d be able to drive it 1,000 miles… most of the time, when I accelerate from a complete stop all it does is sound like I’m revving the engine with only a tiny amount of acceleration until it finally hits about 25mph then it drives normally. And at about 50 mph it sounds like a may blow something up…. So not sure that’ll work for me.

Ok, what you do is let it move under idle for a foot or 2 then hit the gas and it will move alot faster. My truck has done similar until I change the oil.
