Hi from Texas! Thinking about shopping for a car in that's in the Roanoke area. Probably an ignorant question, but is underbody rust an issue there? Is there snow and salt? I have no idea what the climate is like there.
    Thanks for the info.

VA DOT does utilize salt (https://www.virginiadot.org/travel/winterchemicals.asp)

And yes, rust can be an issue there as it is all the up thru the north east and west into the midwestern states.
Just because it’s a VA car though, doesn’t automatically mean it’s a rust bucket - but your chances for a rust free older and/or higher mileage car would improve the further west and south you look.

Really depends on the owner in Va. we do have some salt utilized. But through my almost 50 years in Va. I usually don’t see complete rust buckets. Most of the tundras I’ve seen are surface rust. Nothing severe. My Tundra came from the Midwest and had more rust on it than I’ve ever seen on a tundra. Should be mostly worry free.

You will get all 4 seasons in Roanoke area. Some snow and mostly ice. Winters aren’t too terribly cold usually.

Interesting. I live in Southeast VA (Hampton Roads) and you would think rust would be a big problem given salt air and road salt. But I've never had a problem with it.

Living in Houston , but working in VA for sure there is a difference in underbody condition.... not like Maine or Upstate NY but inland they use salt.....

Agreed. Its not a major issue here but all depends on the owner in all situations. If you compare to the northern states, we get a lot less snow or ice and its usually cleared up within a week or so. I got my Truck from WV and it was completely Rust free and looked great for being up the mountains.
