There are some people who have had their transmission replaced and sound was still present. I'd like to know the buyback statistics on these trucks but I know they are higher than you would expect. On a truck with only 400 miles you will absolutely come out whole on a buy back.

"Toyota claims the resale value hasn't decreased".

Then Toyota will be happy to buy it back from you minus the 200 miles, say for $200 less than you paid, right?

I had 400ish miles and they told me that mileage would not affect the buyback, it would still be the entire purchase price. I got mine back Friday. Drove to Nashville and back to Alabama. Have little over 800 on it now and appears to be operating smoothly.

Have you figured out if it is going to be reflected on the history? It is essentially a brand new transmission in a brand new truck. In my mind, I am telling myself that it is no different than them installing the transmission in Texas when it was assembled a couple months ago. (to give myself peace of mind at least).

Exact same as thing as mine. Only when stopped in D. Put it in N or P and it stops. Really weird though. Never had a vehicle with a transmission that did that before and I’ve had a lot of them over the years.

Mine has been doing this since I got it in November and continues to do it. Has almost 11,000 miles and no real issues from it that I can tell. Mine is outside the big engine recall they are doing so I’ve convinced myself it’s normal.

Never had the issue before. Just hit 7k on mine and after they did the software recall update. Now I have a ticking in drive only while standing still. Just sharing for now.

I bought a Tundra in January… truck was making the ticking noise and took it back the next day after I purchased it. They said nothing was wrong. It got louder so I took it back. They then replaced the transmission. Month and a half later same issue and another transmission installed (3rd transmission @ 10k miles) car is still making the noise after the 3rd installed. One of Toyotas TFS field agents was called in to investigate the tick in person on the forth attempt and said he had never heard the noise but it’s inside the transmission. Looking at all these post regarding the tick I now know that’s a lie. Toyota apparently doesn’t even know what it is which can’t be true. I was told my complaint is the first in a five state territory. The TFS agent said that it’s common noise the tundra makes but they can’t confirm if it’s a problem/safety issue. Toyota Corporate has been a nightmare. If you want your truck replaced they’re going to force you to claim lemon law unless you’re lucky… if you want to hear the noise.. pull up to a wall while in drive and put your foot on the break/roll driver side window down. Most people are hearing it while going through a drive through.

Many people reported this ticking noise, and there's no solution. It's normal noise as far we know.

There were one or two trucks who had transmissions replaced here, and about another hundred trucks who reported this noise to their dealers and were told it's normal

It’s odd, but I feel like mine did this for the first month or so when I first got it, but I don’t hear anymore at all. Almost owned mine for two years and 11,500 miles on it.

Chiming in here. We bought a 24 Limited back in October, lunar rock color. I noticed the sound pretty quickly after having the truck, first in drive throughs, and basically every drive through there after. Never thought much of it, because it wasn't extremely loud, and it never changed over the 8 months that I had it. I put roughly 19k miles on it in that time. In June of this year, it was hit by a landscaper in a skid steer. Finally got insurance all settled and picked up a new truck. The new one is a 24 Limited TRD off road. We got the truck 4 days ago. This one has the same sound, but quite a bit louder. I notice it when sitting in an open space, with the windows down. It is definitely Audible when walking around the front of the vehicle.

All of these stories about transmission replacements, backorders, and the hassle which ensues, has me somewhat hesitant to take it to my local dealer.

For added context, mine does it while in park, neutral, drive, only at idle.

As long as the engine or transmission shits out before the warranty, IDGAF.
