I've got a 2013 Tundra with iForce V8 engine and a towing package, it's a floor shift model (between the seats). The truck is suddenly unable to shift it out of "P" into any other position. I know there is an override switch under the small button and I've used it - it works, but I want to find the true source of the issue.

I checked the Trouble codes with a scanner - there are none, also no Pending codes either. The brake lights all work properly, and there are no additional lights on the dashboard when sitting in the driveway (I did not attempt to drive it).

I've pulled out the safety switch under the brake pedal, disassembled it and cleaned the contacts - was hoping that would fix it, reassemble, still have the same problem.

I came to this site and downloaded the Gen 2 Wiring Diagram, found the diagram for the Shift Lock (Floor) on p429, and I'm looking at it but can't say that I understand it -- I'll try to upload it from another computer. It looks like it has a Shift Lock Control ECU... dear God... isn't anything simple anymore?! Not sure what to check next...

I learned a few things from the diagram above, I'm posting this for the benefit of others who may be having this issue. Using the User Manual for my model, I attempted to locate the three key fuses that are on top of the diagram, they are, from left to right:
AM1, ECU-IG1, and STOP - some were in the fuse box in the engine compartment, one of them was in the fuse box under the instrument cluster (very hard to locate, but it's there). I was only able to find two of them (AM1 and STOP) and they were fine. I was unable to find the ECU-IG1 fuse although the book shows it, I did not have the corresponding fuse in the vehicle fuse box, not sure why. I don't think that fuse is an issue (where-ever it is), because according to the manual that fuse is tied to many other functions in the vehicle and none of them are acting up - so I moved on.

Next, I checked the brake-light switch under the brake pedal - I removed it and disassembled it - the contacts looked burned, I cleaned them but it maybe safer to replace the unit, so I ordered a new one (SLS305 from Amazon, about $10). I'm hoping this will cure it, otherwise it may be the dreaded Shift Lock ECU - hoping not.

If you've spilled any fluid near the shifter or get it detailed, it may be a good time to open up that console and clean in there. Including contacts at the shifter.

    Good point..
That would be a good idea.
@landcruiser_and_tundra those panels pull right off using some plastic dash tools.

I would bust out the DMM and do some testing.
I don't think your lock ECU is bad, at least I hope not.

I haven't spilled anything on the shifter, but the truck is new to me so who knows what the prior owner did - I plan on removing the center console to clean and inspect as soon as I eliminate the brake light switch possibility.

I disassembled the whole console with a goal of measuring the voltage test on that 8-wire plug. I found a wire that has been cut or chewed through with tiny bites on a section of the wire. Guessing it was a mouse... I repaired the cut wire and put shrink wrap on the section of wire that had the chew marks, I tested it and it all works as it should now. Yippie

I also took my time cleaning the spilled coffee and dog hair out of that whole area - it really needed it. Who knows maybe that sweet coffee attracted that rodent... who knows. Anyway, the mouse trap is set just in case this thing is still in there.

Nice. Hopefully you snag it. We got a mice problem at work and it's tore through everyone's stash. Nibled on my coworker's entire box of granola bars. Lol. Bit every single one.

My trap caught a huge mouse overnight... can't believe he was living inside my truck... what else is living in there? Gonna have to set it again.

Wow! Impressive work btw. This may be the first time I’ve heard of setting a mouse trap inside the vehicle lol
