Hello everyone and thank you for letting me join this group! I bought a 2019 Toyota Tundra Platinum Limited with 139k on it. Have never owned one before and have had it for 2 months-ish... I brought it to my local shop the other day and I was down 1qt and a half on oil. I have not towed anything, yet... I was also told by my Toyota Dealer that I should change oil every 10K? I do not smell burning oil but do these trucks burn oil like this?

Thank you all and just hope I didn't purchase a bad truck.

    5k oil changes.

And how did they determine you were a quart low? If they used the dipstick, that doesn’t tell you if you’re a quart low. It’s just there to let you know you have oil in the motor.

This engine has a reputation of not burning a drop of oil. Usually the only reason they are low on oil is a leak or they were under filled.

    Welcome

I wouldn't listen to them about the 10k. Best to just stick with 5k intervals and use synthetic only. In fact, best not to listen to them, they'll likely tell you that you never have to change your transmission fluid. Just start DIYing all of your own maintenance on your truck. Between this forum and YT videos, you'll know the in's and out's of your truck and won't have to rely on the stealer.

For piece of mind, you should just do your own oil change right now regardless of what the dealer or your local shop told you. You'll sleep better knowing you did it right.

300 hectares on single tank of kerosene
Is the inside of the exhaust tip oily, like actually oily and not just sooty? I would think if it were burning that much it would be pretty messy.

Did you/they check the oil weeks before? If they're just going off of what they see right now then that doesn't mean much, previous oil change was probably just low.

This place is amazing. Thank you all! I have no idea how the local shop figured I was a Qt and half low, just what they said they added. It is going to the dealer this Friday to have a couple things done, TPM sensors replaced and such. I love the 5k oil changes. I can sleep better. I am so excited about this truck! Thanks again all of you!

    None....
I'm thinking 10k oil changes can lead to oil consumption. If they said it used 1.5 quarts. You just need to do an oil change you or a trusted shop. Then after you personally check the oil make sure it's topped off. Then check it weekly to see what's going on.

    Yep.

I’m about to hit 200k on one of these engines, and I just checked the oil level last night. 4k miles since the last change, and it still reads at the same spot on the dip stick. This particular engine has wet cam towers on both sides, too.

I stick with 5k changes and 5w30 oil

Good advise. Timing chains do not like 10k oil, change it before it gets low.
