I am "researching" shocks and can't decide.
Daily driver for the most part; some dirt trails in San Diego. I have had Bilstein 6112/5160's on it for a while and am going for an upgrade.

I would love to ear your input.

    These are on my list:

    Kings 2.5's w/adjusters front & rear @AccuTune Offroad
Fox 2.5 Race series DSC front & rear @AccuTune Offroad
    Dirt King 2.5 DCA + 2.5 smooth body @DirtKing
    Bilstein B8 8112 DCA front & rear @Hotshot Offroad

Spring rate? I have stock bumpers and no camper shell.

I plan on going with DK uppers and thinking about a 2-2.5 lift front. I have no lift in the rear and not sure I will need one. I do have a set of CB shackles in the garage.

Anybody familiar with these? They are not on my list but a buddy said good things about them.

    Looking forward to you inputs.

just had some installed on the old and 4runner who also has a built long travel tundra and the performance and feel is awesome. Even compared to his FJ icon stage 9 etc I’ve had the king setup you mentioned and it’s good also but for out of the box to me now the Bilstein ticks a lot of boxes.

Don’t listen to that guy. He will spend your money faster than a shopaholic at a fire sale. Next thing you you’ll be bombing down a deserted stretch of fire road on 37’s with a fire breather supercharged tundra v8 mated to a Chevy transmission and your tail on fire screaming all the while ‘build model airplanes says the little fairy! We need more alitude!’

    I should know…

But, I don’t think you could go wrong with any of those choices. DK and 8112’s are the top of my list.

    That's awesome.
Will the 8112's work properly set at 2-2.5"? What is your thoughts on the rear - lift a little to leave stock? Im now at about 1.5 front and stock rear and that gives me about .75" rake which looks level to the eye. I have thought about perhaps a leaf pack.

Leaf pack or RAS would help the rear. You can always start a PM with @memario1214 and he will help you determine the best options for your needs. But the 8112's have gotten nothing but praise from the folks running them. I think they are on plenty of folks short list once they can justify the cost benefit lol

So I did alot of research before I pulled the trigger. Last step I spoke to Colton @memario1214 at Hot shot and he confirmed for my application, which is a street warrior. The 8100/8112 DSA+ was the winner.

PS don't listen to @reywcms just like they mentioned you'll be spending a shit load of money. Ask me how I know, I'm looking for 37" and I don't even have my suspension installed yet. Lol

Thanks again. I am leaning that way. Going to get in the weeds a little on materials, seals, hoses...

Is the consensus that the 8112s are better than custom tuned Kings (or Fox) from Accutune?

I'm going to need a new setup in the spring and can't decide on which way to go. Leaning towards the Bilsteins, but I'm open to suggestions. I'll have final front and rear axle weights before I order anything, but I gotta find time to finish installing everything first.

I wouldn't say better than a custom valved setup but a great contender for an off the shelf set.

Do y’all think the bypass rear shock is worth the extra coin? The dsa non external bypass can be had for a good chunk less.

That is 100% dependent on your intended use.
If you’re street only and won’t see enough shaft travel to even get into the various zones of a bypass, no. They’re not going to help you.

If you’ll see your rear axle actually traveling throughout the suspension’s full range, you’re a good candidate for a bypass shock. But, you’ll still need to spend time tuning. They will not come set perfectly. I don’t care who you buy them from, they will benefit from a little tuning.

TRD Rear Anti-sway bar, TRD Pro skid plate, Bedrug bed mat, 17" Icon Rebounds, 315/70/17 BFG AT/K02, Bilstein 6112s front (for now), Fox 2.5 Remote Reservoirs rear, Diamondback SE, Dirtydeeds Industries 8" stainless BAMuffler, aFe dry air filter, TRD air intake accelerator
My only experience with front suspensions include OEM, Bilstein 6112s, and now Fox 2.5 Race Series with resi’s and JBA UCAs. The 6112s lasted for over 100K, and I’ve kept them as spares for when it’s time to remove the Fox coilovers for a rebuild. But the 6112s ran a bit too firm to my liking. By contrast, the Fox setup feels a bit softer on road and tends to soak up ruts and off-camber trails better when off-road. I have no experience with 8112s, but everything I’ve read about them in here sounds real promising. They’re just too expensive for my needs, though.
