I'm so sorry to hear about Magnus, he looks like a great dog.

We did it this way as well, way more personal and peaceful this way.

The hardest part of pet ownership is knowing when it's time to give them a peaceful rest. He is blessed to be so loved and to have a warm home and a warm bed to sleep in, thank you for rescuing him. Think of you and your family during this difficult time. :(

Today is going to be tough.......remember the good times and what each of you has given to the other : the gift of unconditional love and non-judgmental companionship. Tomorrow won't be any easier. BUT rest well knowing that you are doing the right thing. We all struggle when it's time because selfishly we want more time. You are showing Magnus what true love is all about......you WILL see him again.

Putting down an animal is probably the hardest thing you will ever have to do. The only thing worse is burying a spouse or child.
I have had to do this 4 times and it does not get any easyer.
May God have mercy on your and Magnus soul.

Taped a post-it to my computer yesterday to let you know I was thinking of you and Magnus. You're obviously a devoted dog-dad so if you've decided it's time I have no doubts you're doing the right thing.

I was just looking through pictures and videos of Riley's last trip to the park that morning, and while I was questioning myself at the time, it's clear looking back that it was time.
I've never met you or Magnus and I'm sitting here snot-nosed crying my eyes out because I know what you're going through, and I'm kinda' going through it again.

Yeah, I thought it would be nice to give Riley a nice steak.

    20220518_095515.jpg

In hindsight, a basic sirloin, something with less fat content might have been a better choice than the big nicely marbled Porterhouse I got him, 'cuz he shit everywhere.:crapstorm::eek:

After his last visit to the park that morning, I helped him into the truck and he shit that too. lol Thank goodness for the Bissell Stainlifter!

We got some new toys for him and Quincy, and (after much deliberation and switching back and forth) Riley chose the little Monkey.

Quincy was really attentive to his bro that morning... Saying goodbye. They totally know.

    20220519_181650.jpg

Please know that Magnus was just as lucky to have you as you were to have him. Rest easy Magnus, and my heart breaks for you Charles.

To better days in doggy heaven.

    I appreciate that story, bud.

The day I brought Magnus home he took the biggest dump in the backseat I ever saw come out of a dog...

Then he walked over to the other side of the seat and peed a puddle the size of Lake Erie. He blazed a paw print trail of shit from one side to the other... Sat in the middle of both messes and smiled at me in the rear view mirror.

Guess he was trying to see if it would change my mind.

    I showed him.... :(

:rofl:He wanted to make sure you were in it for better or worse... "It ain't gonna' be just cuteness and puppy breath buddy, you still in?"

Riley tested us too, neither my wife or I got much sleep the first night, and he almost went back. (He was part Lab, part Ridgeback, and part crackhead)

Glad we both stuck it out.

He's gone. Doc didn't even need to use her stethoscope, I already knew. He was the most peaceful I'd seen him in months.

My wife and kiddos shared the moment and then gave me time alone. I held his face and thanked him for everything...then we loaded him on the stretcher and they took him away.

His heart was so strong. And I killed it.

Damn, this brought a tear to my eye and I don't even have a pup. I am looking to adopt one this year but I know the pain that you are going through @texasrho83 and it's tough. Growing up, we've had to deal with loss of our fur babies. I'm sorry for your loss, My thoughts are with you.

You didn't kill it friend, you let it rest and with that he's no longer in pain. Don't question it/second guess yourself for a second, you did the right thing. Just remember, it's only goodbye for now and not forever.

I feel for you brother ... I cried like a baby after our first dog was put down after being bit by a brown recluse. As senior citizens and responsible pet owners that always keep our dogs for life, went through the heart ache 3 more times with old age complications. Our Black Lab lasted 12 years (human) Rottweiler shy of 10, and my wife's shitzu unknown but old. Glad that SOB passed.

You didn't kill it. You relieved him from suffering. Being that a few of us have gone through this over the last few weeks and months, we know what you are going through. I felt horrible as well. He didn't feel anything because he was already on acepromazine for his vet appointment, she gave him the additional sedative, and then the shot. The most painful part was watching him lay there and knowing that he wasn't coming home with me. :(

That's the same thing I struggled with. "I just fucking killed my dog."

You gave him a loving and peaceful transition and prevented a slow agonizing death. He knows it and so do you.

So sorry, this part sucks. My little one Quincy is 14, and I'm dreading this day with him.

I initially wanted it all gone asap but left it so the house wouldn’t be so sterile for the kiddo. He said it’s comforting to still see it all around, so it’ll stay out a while longer.
