2nd Gen Tundra STARTER part number

I recently ordered a new starter from Joe Joe on FB.

I have a 2007 Tundra with the 5.7 motor.

The original part number that came with the truck is 28100-0S010. According to most Toyota websites, the new part number is 28100-0S050.

I received a different part number.

28100-38080

This part was shipped directly from Toyota parts distribution in Torrance, CA. The box has the old part number identified but the contents are different.

I contacted Joe Joe to let him know. He reached out to the distributor and was told that the new part number is correct.

They verified 3 other boxes and the same new part with the new part number (28100-38080) is inside.

Anyone have insight on this? I am about to try and install it tonight when I get home.

I can tell that the new part about an inch or so shorter.

Both 28100-0S050 and 28100-38080 show as 2.0 kW.

28100-38080 is the part number for Land Cruiser 5.7 and LX570.

28100-0S050 only showed fitment for Tundra and Sequoia.

My guess is the Denso factory consolidated to one part number.

 

Makes sense.

I was not able to install it last night, got home too late. Will attempt tonight and let you know if the truck starts or EXPLODES

New starter bolted right in and works.
