Hello all, I need your help as I've been out of the game a while. I tried searching and finding a particular issue but it's been a bit. Basically, the owner seems like a good straight forward honest guy and the truck is nice. The issue is, I took it for a drive and it drives perfectly fine. Only issue is it does have a pre collision light and a few other warnings in the center screen. Is this a vehicle I should avoid due to this? The truck is lifted 3/2 currently with a TRD pro grill. The seller says he just left the lights blinking due to not being mechanically inclined and just kind of didn't care about the warnings. I will be getting the OEM grill and everything that comes with it. Please help, you guys were always so helpful when I had my other tundras years ago. The link is included above.

I see that he installed a Pro front grill. It’s not the stock grill in the truck. The grill has the millimeter radar sensor and I’m thinking that he never moved the sensor over from the old grill. The millimeter radar sensor is used for the adaptive cruise control and Toyota safety sense. The sensor is very expensive and you may require it if you need an inspection done in your area.

I'd scoop that up with a quickness. If the warnings are all radar and pre-collision related there is a good chance just swapping the grill back to the honeycomb style with the sensor will fix it all. If it's any consolation I have the same warning along with "srs system malfunction" and it doesn't stop me from daily driving the truck.

I think I'm going to, I just want to figure out how to fix it. It's a super nice truck. It has some slight issues but I will sort those. I just definitely want to figure it out quickly.

Thank you, I am in NY but that shouldn't affect the inspection to my knowledge. I will try to put the OEM grill back in when I get it.

Check these connections on the harness 1st. 1 under a panel that pops out next to the latch and 1 that plugs in behind the emblem/sensor. When swapping the grill he should've relocated the sensor, most likely it's just not plugged in or it is misaligned.

1st pic is looking through the opening to the back side of the grill

Thank you so much, I wasn't sure if it was from the loft or the grill change. This makes me feel better about the purchase. Once I have the vehicle in my possession I will have to mess with it. This forum is still just as helpful if not more helpful now.

Good looking truck. Like others have said, it's not the grille that came with the truck so sensor is either incorrectly relocated or removed all together.
I installed the same grille on my '18 and relocated my sensor. It comes on from time to time but it's nothing major to worry about.
Ask the seller what he did to relocate the TSS(Toyota Safety Sense) sensor. It'll look like this...

Edit: Oh and ask him if he has the original grille. Like @Ruggybuggy said, maybe he didn't remove the sensor from the grille. I bought a spare honeycomb grille from OfferUp for about $50 and the guy didn't remove the sensor so that was a plus for me.

I will do, I asked him about it and he said he bought some kit off someone from here. I thought about putting the OEM grill back. But not sure if the color matched surround is able to be separated?

There is no issue clearing the warning.

Just plug the sensor back on and the warning is gone.

It can be separated. It's technically not meant to be but it can. That's what I did with the OfferUp grille I bought. Used it as a donor/test rather than mangle up my actual grille.

This will help you with that if you choose to go that route...

But keep in mind about the location of the sensor. There's lots of info on here about that dang sensor.

if you require an inspection most of the time a warning or light on can result in a fail. Check before you buy. Find out from the seller if he has the old grill and sensor. Factor in that you may require a recalibration that would have to be performed at the dealership if the warning keeps coming up after the sensor is installed. Use the issues as leverage to get a better deal.

Also check that he has documented all the maintenance, free of liens and the bank doesn’t have an interest in it. Check vehicle history for accidents.

These are all definitely valid points. I did actually get a better deal. It is free and clear of all liens. I also received maintenance records and it does come with the OEM grill and sensor. He could also be potentially seeing this thread lol. He was very up front with every single potential issue. Is the original owner and I did get the car back there are no accidents on the vehicle history.

Seems like a win with the latest post from the OP. Should be easy to fix/address with the stock grill and sensor.
