On 2/15 I was headed to work on the freeway going about 80mph and suddenly got a low oil pressure warning and then the engine just shut down. Managed to coast to the right shoulder and was towed to the dealership...truck's NOT included in the recall and Toyota has ordered an engine tear-down. No loaner vehicle, no nothing!! What should I do, other than wait? And should I sell the truck when they finish with it?

How many miles do you have? If your under warranty you should be getting a loaner or your dealership sucks. Especially with all the engine issues going around

As part of our ongoing commitment to our customers, you are eligible for transportation assistance (1) under the Transportation Assistance Policy, if your vehicle (2) must be kept overnight for warranty-covered repairs for any of the following reasons:

    • The warranty repairs will take longer than one day to complete. (3)
    • The warranty condition requires extensive diagnosis.
    • The parts needed for the warranty repairs are not readily available and your vehicle is inoperative or unsafe to drive.

As mentioned, you should be offered a loaner.

What is the build date on your truck?

My 6/23 build is also not on the recall. If my engine fails, I will not accept a short block tear down and repair. I will lawyer up, and fight it. Some will say, Toyota and their dealerships aren't obligated to replace the entire engine, since it's not included in the recall, but I'll still fight it on principle, anyway.

Is your truck a hybrid,I have a 23 as well and have not received a letter,I'm under the impression that's because it's a hybrid which really doesn't mean much in the scheme of things,if the engine blows the MG could get me to a "safe place" but not sure as for the cut off dates on these trucks.

I think it's been well documented that if a hybrid engine blows, you will not have any motive power from the hybrid system, despite what Toyota claims in the recall.

Build dates on non-hybrid trucks thru mid-Feb 2023 are currently included in the recall. Nothing built later than that date are included, even though engine failures have continued well past that date.
