Hello. I'm asking for an opinion on both the price and the confusing badging.

    Pricing
I'm looking at purchasing this 2018 Tundra SR5 with 107k for $28,999. Not a GREAT price, but seems like a good one for a Quicksand with a long bed (short beds are easier to come by). Am I crazy?

    Badging
I'm also confused by the badging. The Toyota VIN decoder lists the trim as SR5. The seller lists it as an SR5. Did the previous owner just add the badging to look cool or something?

SR5 is a trim. TRD Offroad is a package (different wheels, tires, shocks, bed stickers). You perhaps confused it with TRD PRO, which is a trim?

That’s the correct badging for the truck. The off road version gives you Bilstein shocks and different rims and I believe the spring rates are different. I have the same SR5 with the off road trim.

It’s legit. It’s an SR5 with the TRD off-road package.

That’s correct; good color too! I have a 2019 sr5 trd off road….except mine is a crew max. I have the convenience package which gives the larger gas tank amongst other things. I don’t know it $29k is a good deal or not but I do know I wouldn’t sell mine for that price!!!! Good luck!

I just bought a silver sky 2020 and had the same concerns. Check the shocks. If they are blue that's trd. Also look for a gas tank skid plate. That's trd as well.

TRD Off Road has the yellow Bilstein shocks. The TRD Sport got the blue shocks.

Thanks, everyone. Yeah, I was a bit confused as I have a Tacoma TRD Off-Road which on the Toyota VIN database is listed as the trim or grade. I suppose I just have to get with the Tundra lexicon.

I'm taking the truck to a local Toyota dealer for a pre-purchase inspection this week. Let's see what happens!

Ah, yes, well longer than the 5.5 beds I've seen! And again in the Tacoma world 6.5 is the long bed, so I again have a lot to get used to here.

5.5 is only on the crewmax. DC will have 6.5 and 8’ beds.

The TRD Off-road package was a 2018 must-have when I bought mine. It added a few important upgrades:

It’s a common misconception that “TRD Off Road” is a trim. It is not. It’s a package that can be added to SR5, Limited, and 1794 trims.

For the 2nd gens at least, the TRD OR package wasn’t available on SR or Platinum trims.

The confusion probably arises because TRD Pro IS a trim.

This is all very helpful. Thank you, everyone! I'm feeling better about the stated options in the truck. I have a pre-purchase inspection scheduled at a Toyota dealer to give me perhaps a bit more peace of mind (or make me run for the hills!). I'll update this thread when I make a decision.

Maybe in the US for red Off Road? I don’t recall seeing red in Canada for the OR. Yellow Bilsteins for the OR. My 2020 Sport had blue shocks and the SR had black.

Based on panicman post, I would guess that the sr5 upgrade was included also. Seems weird to have one without the other. I forgot they were two different packages.

2018 I believe were last year with the tranny cooler.

make sure they check for coolant leak from the valley plate.

For some additional history, I remember shortly after I bought my 2018 SR5 with the OR and Upgrade packages, I saw a dealer Platinum 2018 and talked to the guy driving it. He said they couldn't sell the truck because it didn't have the TRD package, and that's what everyone was demanding. They were going to have to drop the price on this Platinum to less than what I'd paid for my truck- that's how desirable/in-demand those packages were, at least in Oregon.

I've had my 2019 TRD offroad for a year now. Also has the SR5 badge. Paid $38,500 with 48K miles at the time. The price of the OP seems in line with what I was seeing for price at 100K when I was shopping last year.
I even saw a couple listed with 200K miles and still going over $10,000.

My Toy. Previous owner must have ordered it. Has heated seats, which shouldn't come with it. A definite plus.

Price seems a little bit high compared to KBB, but it looks very clean and those quicksand colors seem to be few and far between. Could try to negotiate for sure, but if you plan to keep it for a long time and you're really set on quicksand, I don't think you'll regret it.
