Fair price for 2021 limited?

Hello all,
Looking at upgrading my 2014 to a 2021 Limited. Found a stock one locally with 22,000 miles for 49k. Seems pricey! What seems to be a decent price for a clean 2021 Limited with 22,000 miles?

 

That’s a little rich for my taste buds…

 

Is that OTD price?

For a data point, 2 years ago I bought mine CPO for $51,975. Had slightly more miles too at 27k.

 

It’s awesome for all you second gen owners that they are holding their value so much. My 2020 Platinum had a sticker of 54k back then. A brand new Limited in 2021 was probably 49-50k so that’s crazy that they are still getting what they stickered for, 4 years ago

 

Probably holding the value a bit better in the face of the new model. Some want old school stuff like the V8, leafs and steel bed. Then compound that with the motor recall issues on the new ones and I’m sure it’s hard to find a great deal on a 2.5gen.

Just bought a used 2020 sr5 trd w 49k for 36. Was gold certified. No accidents. One owner. Dealer maintained every 5k. Not in as good shape cosmetically as I was hoping but that's ok w me. Some scratches, dog hair, etc.

I have been watching 2020 and 2021 prices a lot for about 6 mos. Used with lower mileage range from 32-47k in my area. The limited packages def seemed were valued much higher. 40 and up. I certainly would negotiate. I asked for 1000 off when dealing and didn't think I was Gonna get it but I got 800.

 

Dealership was a joke. Valued my 2014 sr5 at 12k and would not budge on my trade in or price of the truck. Also lied to me about financing and what parts I can take off my truck. I walked. I have over 10k in upgrades in my truck as it is. I will keep the 2014 for now.

 

Paid 41 for my 2021 Limited CM 4x4 exactly a year ago. 104k mi when I bought it. Didn't hesitate one bit.

 

I paid $45k before TTL for my 2021 SR5 fully optioned with TRDOR and 30k odo. This was last summer. The 2nd gens are holding their value and then some. Late model years with low mileage are selling used for what they were new. No room to haggle, the demand is too hot. I think $49k for a 21 limited with low mileage isn’t far off in today’s market. Maybe a tad high but not by a lot.

 

Paid 45k for my '21 TRD OR a little over a year ago with 18k on the odo. Heard anecdotally yesterday (don't quote me) Toyota had a company wide meeting with plans to up new inventory/dealer allocations in the coming months. More inventory should in theory drive both new and used prices down. If you can hold off, might be worth a little wait, but low mileage 2.5 gens are increasingly becoming harder to find (duh).

Just for reference my brand new 2020 TRD Offroad was 43.5k (tax, tags, and trade in deduction on a lemon 4Runner NOT included in the above price). I truly think I got a once in a lifetime deal.

 

OP, you are learning a hard lesson, a lot of us have learned the hard way (myself included multiple times). Your mods REDUCE the value of your truck, not enhance. You should strip them before trade in, sell them locally or keep for the new truck. It isn't just that dealer, its every dealer.

 

I notice prices are high on last gen Tundras. I see dealers near me selling 70 k-90k miles sr5 for $36/38k. I paid 40k for mine brand new.

 

I watch the two dealers closest to me used section pretty regularly to get an idea of what mine is worth. Over summer and into the fall there were always 4-6 2nd gen range models for sale. Now there is maybe 1 or 2, and they seem to have cleared out all the leases that got turned in from the 21' model year. Since they never really sold that many in the first place (comparatively) I think they should continue to hold their value well into the future.

Edit: It seemed like there was a little dip in asking price for a few months, but now I've noticed it's gone back up with the leases being cleared.

 

Resale on Tundra's remains high, dealership in AZ offered me $48K for limited (Oct 24) with comparable milage.

 

In 2010 I paid $21.9 for an SR5 4x4 DCLB with 31K miles. I still have it and still love it.
My 2021 SR 4x4 DCLB cost me 39K new. Carvana sends unsolicited offers and the last one was $33.6 with 48K miles for the 21. I will add that the same dealer I ordered the 21 through had offered me an SR5 4x4 DCLB in 2020 for 38K and my dumba** said no. I just had to have the extra seating in front which now is not even needed.

 

I paid 45.5 for my tundra limited, 2019, with TRD off road package. 27,500 miles. I looked and looked. Super high resale, bullet proof engine. Just make sure to check if been in accident and regular service. That seems about right for these trucks. They are almost higher or the same as the new ones. The market went higher when the new ones began to have problems and they continue to do so. Good luck!

seems to be the case everywhere. Wish I could take the items off, I don't have anything to replace them with. Starting to looking for a late model 2.5 gen began recently with the discovery of a kiddo on the way and wanting to have the lashes model of a 2.5 for longevity. Not like my 2014 won't do it but If I could get a 2021 with sub 40k miles I would. Just hate to see all my upgrades go away....

 

its not like the 2020 and 2021 done have issues either though. Heard about differential problems on these.

 

Rear differential problems pretty isolated, no more than any other truck. Front differential has the drivers side needle bearing that makes noise, but doesn’t seem to ever fail. Swap for ECGS cures it.

 

I personally love my 2019. Has the old school key. I disliked that the 2020 and 2021 makes you pay for a subscription for the remote start. I added one after market and the engine won’t shut off when you open the door too.

 

my 21' is free, always has been, always will be. It's in the key fob. I guess the battery replacement every few years could be a subscription?

 

Yeah, I mean the app costs money. I just paid for a aftermarket one. You are right, the fob is free.

Like it or not - there simply are more buyers for something like that than there are sellers who have one to offer. Mix in fact cars are sitting longer so carrying cost are higher - doesn’t surprise me dealer wouldn’t budge.

They don’t have 8 more sitting on a back lot somewhere - once they sell that one - they have to find something else attractive to offer and bring asses in the door.

Your 2014 they’d likely price around 21-22k - but again - how long will that sit before they sell it ? 30% is pretty normal for markup on used cars - especially non late models. They can get by making 15-20% on 3-5 year old inventory - but older than that 1/3 is the standard.

 

Why not just keep your 14, probably will last another 10 years without question. Although I get wanting new features.

 

I would have walked as well if they were low balling me and being dishonest.

I don't think the price is great, but it's not horrific. I paid $39k ($42.2k otd) for my 2021 TRD sport with 32k miles about 18 months ago. At that time, with similar mileage, all the limiteds were mid-high $40k range and the 1794/Platinum/Pro were low $50k.
