My 4Runner slid into my Tundra

Pulling into my drive this AM it felt as if my brake pedal wouldn’t go down at all. I was in 2 Hi and slid right into my Tundra. I hit hard enough to move the Tundra backwards at least a foot. Snow melt had completely iced my drive right in the area needed to come to a controlled stop. After inspecting the damage I tried parking numerous times and the 4Runner wanted to crab crawl sideways so I just left it in 4 Hi. Neither vehicle show any damage from the outside, but let me tell you “I hit hard”. After further inspection I did find black plastic that came from the 4Runner, just inside of the grill area, not visible from outside. I think it servers as a brace for the grill/ possible rain shield for the passenger headlight area. Here is the plastic that fell out. I’m not sure what my next step is going to be. A mechanic friend looked at it and said he wouldn’t do a thing if he were me. Just knowing my 2023 4Runner has something wrong pisses me off. Just needing to vent!!

 

Consider it battle tested.

 

It could have been so much worse. I feel like one of those elderly folks that hit the gas instead of the brake. I have lived here for 20 years, same snow melt, same ice…. And never had a problem. I put sand on the ice and it’s still not stable so I’m just gonna use 4 Hi when pulling in my drive until the snow and ice are gone.

 

My condolences. The first scratch (dent/crash/damage) is always the hardest.

 

Why not just replace the busted part

I used to have a Honda Insight with the 5 speed manual. Pushed the clutch in to start it up, but totally spaced out and didn’t take it out of gear before letting off the clutch. Drove the car right into the A/C unit in my driveway.


Not only did all of the Freon leak out, but my younger brother actually did the same exact thing a week later. After that happened I fixed the parking brake.

 

Ain’t that the truth. I have always preferred used cars (and houses!) for that reason. Something mental about me damaging something expensive and new that makes it feel ten times as bad.

 

I just tried to remember my last Brand New car... 1997 It ended like this at the hands of some A-Hole. R.I.P. little green rocket BTW, Airbags=Good

 

Bought my wife the same car brand new in 97. Civic EX in that same color with a 5 speed and a sunroof.

They made an EX with manual? huh, mine was auto. Loved that car, kept it pretty flawless really. It's fuel cuttout was around 113mph...
With a semi!? holy shit that had to be bad.

 

113mph was the same speed my Insight would go. The gearing was so tall that the only way to achieve it was redline in 3rd gear… and a long downhill.

 

It was a blast to rev up to 7800rpm, when that Vtec kicks in yo!

Wow… all of you have really cheered me up, but I have even better news. I went to the body shop and couldn’t believe the following invoice (I really dodged a bullet):

 

Bummer, looks like you dodged a large bill.

 

Glad you'll be able to fix your 4-runner without a large bill. $151 is pretty reasonable.
