    Hey guys,

I’m a bit stumped diagnosing this progressively worsening issue on my Harrop supercharged truck and am open to hearing what y’all think.

My LX570 was Harrop supercharged 2 years ago and never had any issues with the coolant circuit for the supercharger, its always kept a rock steady level and never needed to be filled.

About 8 months ago I noticed that the truck was driving a little off and my IAT’s were a bit higher than normal so after checking everything else I discovered that the S/C coolant reservoir was bone dry… I filled it up, idled the truck and kept topping it off until the coolant was level. Odd that coolant just disappeared and no sign of leaks anywhere…

Next oil change roughly 4 months later I checked the reservoir and yet again it was bone dry… wtf? Filled up again but this time I noticed that the intercooler pump barely worked, but by the time the system was full of coolant it started to circulate as normal.

Now a couple days ago I rechecked and behold… bone dry reservoir yet again…. I refilled the system and after tapping the pump with a hammer it slowly came back to life.

I’ve removed the skid plates and checked every square inch of the engine block and every single hose but there is no exterior leak anywhere. I’m assuming the Intercoolers inside the Harrop supercharger may be leaking? Have any of y’all had to replace those intercooler blocks before? What could have caused this to happen?

Sounds like intercooler bricks are leaking. We had a slight cracked unit in the old man’s supercharged FJ. Same type scenario. Pulled it apart brick had a crack in it.

Some of the bricks leak. I would reach out to Harrop for a remedy after you let them know what is occurring. Harrop had an account on these forums but I don't think they monitor it frequently. They are fairly quick to respond via email.

Mine has been installed for almost 2 years now, I haven’t had any fluid loss.

Any updates on this? Did you ever check to see if you have staining on your reservoir if the cap is venting off coolant? Just checked mine and the level dropped slightly since I checked last but I see staining on the reservoir from the cap venting. The reservoir cap vents at 16psi by design. If the cap is faulty it could be venting prematurely. You should check this too @nobodyintexas if you were experiencing some coolant loss. May be time for a new cap at a minimum. I could see it explaining some coolant loss but probably not a huge amount.

Mine was leaking slightly when I first installed. I made a gasket for the cap and that solved it.

    yup. might be the culprit.

I have always suspected the cap sealing as being the problem.

I always have the dribbles on the side of the reservoir.

if it was leaking coolant into the motor, I would:
    Throw codes
    have weird exhaust
    misfire?

    I have none of those.

now....where/how does one source a new cap?

30 degrees out this morning. see the schmeg around the cap?

Please add some color to this comment.

just a simple rubber grommet on the underside of the cap?

I'd pressure test the cap and system and see if you can find a slow leak. No leaks so far in 2 years on mine.

If your pump is acting up, it could cause uneven heating and expansion and cause it to vent prematurely as well. Look into replacing the pump too.

I used some thick rubber that I cut into a circle. Probably 1/32 thick.
