I changed my transmission fluid over to Amsoil today. This is what my fluid looked like at 38,000 miles. I was regularly seeing 210-220 temps in the summer here in Texas, no towing just daily driving. I’m putting a cooler on sometime in the next few weeks when I have time. The photo is the second drain and fill.

Yeah, I’ve never had tranny fluid look that bad before. This is also with no towing.

So that's some of the extra special lifetime fluid I've been hearing about...such bullshit...I'll be changing mine, just drain and fill, every 30k

How does it drive with the Amsoil? I’m assuming it’s SS blue cap you used. I’ve got a case sitting in the garage. I’m also going to use it in the xfer case.

Front and rear diff can take Amsoil (I use it too) Transfer case.... Isn't that spec'd out for Toyota WS ATF?

I bought a bunch of stuff at Rock auto the other day... Couldn't deal with Toyota WS at 14 a quart so I went for
AISIN, ATF0WS at half the price. Since Aisin makes the transmissions, they should know what fluid should be in there to make it happy.

It definitely shifts smoother with the Amsoil. Yes, Amsoil blue cap. I swapped diff fluid out at 10k front and rear with Amsoil as well. Transfer case will be getting the same blue cap fluid.

I used just under 12qts. I bought the 2.5 gallon jug and three additional quarts. I did three drain and fill. I’ve got about 1.25 quarts left.

Do you have a specific part number for the transmission amsoil? I need to do the same here as well. Thanks.

OE and Sig are both compatible with Toyota WS. I went with Signature.

You need like 4 quarts for drain and fill, in a $70k truck. OE $14/qt, cheap substitute is $7/qt. You save how much, $28? I understand if you go with something better, that is known of staying in grade for longer, etc... But trying to save on partial ATF replacement, really?

What about taking the pan off.....would that be a good idea when doing the swap? Just thinking about how to get it all out at once.

Never a good idea. When the coarse filter gets clogged, the transmission is done.

I used Valvoline MaxLife in my Tacoma when I did a Flush and Fill - no problems what so ever although I added Lubegard Platinum to the mix.

you would want to do a flush and fill for that and do not remove the pan as said. Easier to just do the Drain and Fill three times and call it a day.

Has anyone figured out the procedure to show the temp window in the dash cluster for topping off trany fluid?

The filter is a pleated paper filter, like an oil filter. And isn't it more of a reason to change the filter to avoid it geting clogged?

It’s not and no reason to remove the pan unless there’s a leak.

Removing the pan is easy. The gasket is reusable. You get more than half the fluid out instead of MAYBE 3 qts out of almost 12.

How does removing the pan result in an extra 3qts of fluid removal??

The "drain" which is the fill check on the 3rd gen only gets about 3qts out. There is still about 4 qts still in the pan

If this is true, why not drop a hose in there and pump the rest out. Hard to believe they don’t have an actual drain plug and the “fill plug” is supposed to be used as the drain? Color me skeptical on this.
