It doesnt but how do you know that its extending or retracting when you put power to it?
When on the truck it'll bog down that little motor on it pretty quickly when its engaging. (rotor will be lock in place too)
When back off (retracting) it'll take a little bit.

If you do it off the truck, you may not realize which direction things are taking until its too late

Thanks Tom for posting this detailed process. You will save me a bunch of time with the voltage and method for the PBrake retract as well as the thin wrench comment on the caliper bolts. I’m not quite there yet but my date with a pad change will come.

Here is how I did mine. No sending voltage needed. Treat it like a integrated brake caliper from a 90's Honda. I just use a Harbor Freight brake service tool.

You can see it extend. You won't see it retract, you'll hear the motor but the piston won't move...you have to push it in.

It's pretty idiot proof off the truck if you're paying attention...even more, on the truck.

Are you saying you just used a "brake service tool" to turn the brake piston, which retracts it into the caliper to clear the new, thicker pads?

Yeah. The special tool is just a brake service tool. It was $67 on eBay but I already have brake service tool from harbor freight that I use for work.

the tool I found on eBay.

I think that is one way to do it, others complained about twisting up the dust boots and didnt want to tear them.

    Is this the HF one?
Maybe. The video I watched on retracting the piston with a 12v source showed the boot twisting as well. The solution was to reverse polarity and let it "unwind" a little bit to fix the boot.
