Second window regulator that has failed

My 2022 1794 has had the two front window regulators fail. Has anyone had this problem? Prior to failing the power windows started making a grinding noise. The first one to go was the drivers window and now the passenger side. I hardly ever use the power windows so I find it kind of strange.i do wash my truck often (several times a week) Could this be the culprit?

 

Several time a week? Like every other day. Good for you! Bet the truck looks great.

I noticed if I wash and dry the truck, then roll the windows down an hour later, when I bring them back up they are covered in water.

 

How many miles on your truck? I have 85k on my 22 Platinum and a few weeks ago my passenger window shit the bed. I do open and close a lot but I went to put the window down and heard a little pop. The window would not go down but I could hear the grinding that you were talking about. If I put the window down I could hear the noise and I could move the window up and down by hand. Dealer said there is some sort of cable that attaches to the window that broke. I don’t know if they replaced the regulator or cable but it cost me a little over $300 to fix it.

 

My truck had 35,000 miles when my driver door regulator went out and now it has 51,000 when the passenger door regulator went out. Toyota had come out with a new part number when my driver door regulator went out so my guess is that they have been having problems.

 

$300 isn’t terrible to fix one. Aftermarket regulator and motors are usually around $100 and an hour of your time. The dealer is probably using OEM which cost more.

but, OP, I think more water gets down there than a typical vehicle. Seems like if I roll down my window and roll it back up I’ve got to wash the window again. It never comes back up as clean as it went down seconds Prior. Never had another car Do that

 

All of my previous GM vehicles would do the "wet window" thing after washing. The weather seal along the bottom of the window retains water and gets it wet when lowered/raised. They used to be made of a felt-like material and all vehicles had that issue.

 

I know this is an old thread, but both the drivers and passengers windows have died on my 22 Platinum. I have about 68k miles. It was the motor and regulator on both and they quoted me a little over $700 to repair.
Thankfully I had the extended warranty so Toyota paid for if…design flaw perhaps?

 

Wow, only lasted a couple years, wonder if they refurbish or just toss 'em ? Would you say you use the windows excessively ? Warranty paying for itself at least, good luck with the new set.

 

Side question- Any chance you had your windows tinted? My tint guy gets great results but flooded the crap out of the inside window and had more water on the dash than I would like. I wonder if the soap could have some impact on the inner door parts.

 

You would think anything that was meant for rain could take on soap as well but interesting thought there. Maybe it is drying up lubrication causing more motor strain? I have little idea lol.

side note that’s a lot of washing and wonder how that affects the clear coat/swirling? Hard to keep that gloss look on black I know that. You may want to add air dryer/leaf blower to your wash/dry routine and get around the windows good. I’ve found that to help get all the pesky water in crevices and less touching the paint.

 

No the windows were never tinted. I don’t really roll them down much…maybe twice a week (occasional drive through or ATM.) Really hardly ever.
