    Hi all,
I'm considering buying a 2021 crewmax with the 5'5 bed. I work in the trades so will be carrying tools in the bed full time and occasionally need capacity for a ladder or some longer lumber.

I'm not sure I want to go the full on, front to back lumber rack route. I love retractable tonneaus and looking for a headache type rack that would be compatible. From what my initial research has shown this is near impossible to achieve, especially while retaining the cargo rails.

If anyone has pulled this combo off I'd love to know what you used. Bonus points if you're Canadian as it would need to be something that could be shipped to Canada.

    Thanks!

I mounted my Westin HDX headache rack to DIY bed rails 3"x3"x 1/4" angle that are bolted to expandable rubber stake pocket anchors with stainless bolts. Have a Gator soft roll up mounted on the factory rail system. Installed front receiver hitch and bought two convertible hori/vert hitch mounted bed extenders. I can transport a 28' beam overhead on my truck without a trailer, just two upright bed extenders and the headache rack. Perfect cheap cover when I need to keep the bed dry too.IMG_20241030_095450950.jpg

You just need a headache rack that sits flush on the rails similar to this one

Plop a retrax or truck covers USA hard retractable on top of it. Retrax will maintain the own bed rails. Truck covers USA you can get a toolbox to go with it. Both will allow you to add a bedrack later on in the future if you want to put the lumber up high
