I’m thinking about getting a regular cab short bed and putting about a 400# pop-up camper shell on the bed, and imagine I’d easily have another 250# of gear in the back at any one time.

What do I need to know about setting up custom suspension for loads like this in the back?

I have a super pacific camper, 200 drawers and full rear swing outs.
    Truck got weighed at 7700lbs…
I had OME springs with an add a leaf that got flat pretty quick.
I replaced it with heavy duty springs from Ironman 4x4 and new shackles etc. I’m pretty happy. I could see down the road maybe adding a leaf but for now it’s riding well.
    I have Bilstein 6112s / 5160 shocks

Look into custom rear leafs if you have the coin. Alcan comes to mind but there are other good options.

If your leafs are in good shape now, no sag, RAS may be enough to help with that weight, certainly would be cheaper than new leafs.

If you search, there are Many thread on this topic, so lots of info here on Tundras about dealing with sag from bed load.

So 750 lbs? It will sag a bit, occasional use? Or is it going to live on the truck?
