I just bought a 2008 tundra 5.7 that is supercharged. It has trouble when I pull a trailer with overheating. It stays away from the red but it gets close and stays there until I slow down or stop then it’ll fall back down to normal. Is this happening because the supercharger is making more heat than the stock radiator can handle? The motor was rebuilt before I bought it. It only has bout 6,000 miles on the new rebuild.

How heavy is the trailer you're pulling?

At least you know the gauges work, so there's no wiring issues.

There could be a few things going on here:

Thermostat and the correct temp rating for a SC.

    Radiator fouling

    water pump

    fan clutch.

Welcome @z_gersch33 , since it was rebuilt not long ago I would suggest checking the coolant system for any air bubbles as that will cause overheating.

Also, a supercharged Tundra with a properly running engine and cooling system should do just fine towing as many other members installed theirs for that exact reason. Good luck!

Supercharger or blower on the 5.7 is not your issue.

You have a coolant flow issue.

be happy it's not expensive parts.

I changed the thermostat already because it would start heating up when I would get on it a lil bit. The thermostat had broke and was stuck half open. That fixed it where I can drive it hard and it’ll do fine. I pulled a bass boat with it and it did good through town but soon as I hit the highway and got in some hills where it would have to stay around 2500 rpm’s it couldn’t handle it and started to heat up. It gets to a certain spot right before the red and hold there but it boils out the over flow tube. That’s why I was wondering if I need a bigger radiator like a 4 flouse because maybe the supercharger creates more heat than the stock radiator can handle. But idk that’s why I’m on here lol

You need a properly functioning cooling system, but not some aftermarket radiator that promises more cooling or whatever. I would check the fan clutch. Also possible that your original radiator needs replacement, it’s 17-18 years old now.

So you think the stock cooling system can handle the superchargers extra heat?
