Cold Air Intake System question

Has anyone with a 2021 SR5 5.7 V8 used the TRD or other brand replacement cold air intake system? I am curious if there is a benefit and if so what, other than advertised.

 

No benefit, really. I'd get a Wix air filter, a 2007-2013 lower filter box and perform a SABM (StockAirBoxMod) and you'll have lower IATs (IntakeAirTemp), slightly more "crisp" throttle response and more sound...the best part, it's truly a cold air intake. Not worth spending $400 on the TRD setup.

 

You’ll get more noise and a lighter wallet

 

An aftermarket CAI is nothing without a MAF sensor rescale if your looking to get performance gains

If you look where the air is actually being intaked from on the stock setup you'll see it's already getting cold air. The days of an air intake taking in air from the engine compartment are gone.

 

The Stillen uses 2 air intake tubes.

 

The SAMB is easy and pretty cheap if you source the parts from Amazon.

 

What's the difference in the lower intake boxes?

 

They're larger/more surface area intake boxes...they also require a larger filter, typically...

Afe dry filter, oem replacement. Drop in for a little more noise.

 

Great idea, stick with the OEM filters as well, more open filters like k&n let in more air but also don't filter as well. The only way you're getting more power from the truck is adding a super charger.

 

The stock opening at the wheel well is slightly too small. This is on purpose by Toyota to make it quieter.

or sabm, adds an extra opening which takes in air thru the wheel well. That maximizes stock without the driveability issues you could get with a cold air intake.
