Have the opportunity to buy the 2008 off a family friend at a good price, but would have to sell the 2000 I’ve had for the last few years. Trying to decide if the upgrade is worth it or if it is even really an upgrade. Are the 2nd gens as reliable as the 1st?

    2000 has 158k miles
    2008 has 189k miles

Do you need the larger truck or 4 wheel drive?
Which engine does the 2008 have?

2nd gen trucks are reliable. 4 wheel disc brakes are big improvement over disc/drum setup on the 1st gen. They also have the benefit of fewer NLA parts from Toyota.

08 has the 5.7L V8. Not necessarily any functional use, but the 08 is certainly far more roomy and comfortable. I just didn’t know if the extra 30k miles is worth the trade for an 8 year difference in engineering.

Both great trucks, that's a tough call. I have both and a 21 and all 3 run like a top.
Personally the 2000 feels like a sportscar compared to the bigger 2.IMG_4059.jpg

I just noticed the 08 is 4WD. For me 4x4 is mandatory so I change my answer-not a tough call for me.

Quite the collection you have! 2nd gen definitely feels much larger. Surprisingly it gets about 5 more mpg than my 2000. Thanks for your feedback!

No the 08 in my case gets 13 while the 4.7 is generally 16-23mpg
Don't expect it to do much better than 15
