I'm fairly active on a vintage vespa motor scooter forum. One of the members posted up a video of their first ride on their newly acquired vespa. If you have sensitive eyes, you'll see something hideous between :13~:14 seconds into the video.

I installed Dad's backup cam/tail gate handle and Kenwood touch screen today. Man I hate working on American Toyotas.
And before any annoying purists go saying "uuuh only 00-02 were actually made in Japan."

Well all know that there was a shift from Japanese design to American design in the mid 2000's, as well as manufacturing. So zip it.

15 screws to get the tail gate panel off and I still had to have a damn boss fight with an alignment tab piece of shit thingy, to get it off.
Had to remove the tailgate and drill a hole for the camera wiring, because unlike ours, there's no holes at the bottom. Their stupid taillights have three bolts. And don't even get my started on the dash around the radio. A total of 4 bolts and over 20 screws to get the radio out.

 

Now that's a sex side.

Well that didn't take long to sell.

 

I've spent two hours fighting this hose clamp only to realize I either ordered the wrong radiator hose or Rock Auto sent me the wrong one. Slightly different length and diameter. That's why I can't slide the clamp over the thermostat housing. Trying to convince myself not to reuse the original one that's 13 years old.


Treated myself to some new tools though. Duralast tools aren't the best quality but it works. The long reach hose clamp pliers are really handy also.

 

How do you like the 20v Dewalt right angle impact?

I’ve got the Milwaukee one and it’s only good for small rusted bolts/fasteners. Takes 10-12 seconds to get a large rusted 12 mm bracket bolt off the support for the rear bumper. Took so long it slightly deformed the square input to the impact socket.

 

I’ve seen sort of mixed opinions on this, in the giant post @Shifty made “so u just bought a tundra” he says something about planetary gears exploding when towing in over drive. so just do i know, is it better to turn over drive off when towing? (i have a fairly light lawn trailer)

 

I just bought it yesterday so I don't have much time with it yet. I only got it for very small fasteners.

I use my Rigid Subcompact impact for everything else. By far my favorite tool. I barely use my full size impact anymore because the Rigid does basically everything I need. I used it to do the full suspension teardown recently.

 

Since a lawn trailer isnt pushing as much wind as a box trailer, you’ll probably be fine if your easy on it, but in the hills, i keep OD off until 55mph or so to keep the transmission from hunting gears, and 3rd gear in lockup gets better milage than OD out of lockup.

 

Yeah, they are great for that. Anything rusted that I would snap off by hand like a 10-12mm bolt comes right off effortlessly with my right angle so I kept it for that.

I built out the storage box in the back to accommodate the 10 inch sub. Wired up the amplifier. I’ve been diagnosing this for about an hour. I’m fairly confident that the amplifier is bad. The blue light on it just blinks. I’ve checked all my connections and voltage.

The mill scale actually blasts off easier if you let it rust a little.

 

I’ve seen a lot of smoke rigs, and I always imagine the tire/axle being in the way. Does it make it harder to work that pit closest to the tire?

 

95% of your time smoking is spent at the firebox end managing the fire. The cook chamber doors only really get opened to load it, and check on things every few hours.

The racks are full depth and slide out for easier access if you have t-rex arms

I wouldn't worry about reusing it. My LS430 has the original, 259,000 mile hoses on it, they're in great shape. My truck had original rad hoses until last summer, and the only reason I replaced them was because they were on sale. My mechanic actually asked me why I would replace them so soon.

I’d rock a vespa. I had a blast growing up on grandpas honda elite 80 & it was a boring 4 stroke.

Police report: Two middle aged men were clocked traveling 70mph on a modified Vespa shortly before losing control and crashing into a corn field. Road side sobriety tests (surprisingly) revealed alcohol was not a factor.
