I know this been asked before and I read many posts on it. To those with ceramic tint on the moonroof, have you run into any issues with the glass getting too hot? I live in PA, so we do get some scorching days in the Summer, and I was thinking of adding 20% ceramic tint. Truck is currently at the shop to repair one window, I scuffed it up with a headlamp.

I did mine with 20% ceramic last fall. I'm not sure about how hot the glass gets yet, but it sure keeps the heat out of the cabin. I left the sunshade rolled back all last fall. I highly recommend & I'm also taking wife's Lexus back to get her sunroof done as well.
I've never been a sunroof kind of guy, but now I use it way more since the heat is not burning me up.

Aye man def recommend putting 50% on windshield. Meant to point it out yesterday. Great for summer drives and to help knock down that pesky hood glare.

If I do the front it has to be 70-80%. My sides and back are dark to the point of having to drop a window at times to see at night. The driver side is all fixed up, I take it back soon for a ppf checkup and the moonroof tint.

In PA the windshield and front sides must allow 70% of light in, back sides and rear window can be as dark as you want. As long as you don't drive like an idiot, you will be fine. They tend to target fart pipe ricers for camber and such.

My ppf and ceramic coating installer works with the tint installer next door. The tint installer has a red reflective tint on his front window. I am surprised he doesn’t get pulled over. Like I said though, drive smart and all is well. They also don’t give truck owners much grief, even with some having a lot of tire/wheel poke.

From what I was told, % tint has minimal impact to the heat reflecting properties of ceramic or carbon tint. Go as dark or light as you want. Shop did tell me not to go too dark on the wife's Tesla though...but they said they would warranty any shade on my truck

Tint darkness means almost nothing for heat rejection, so many think otherwise though. Its just not worth hashing it out, lol.

I watched a video today where the owner said to make sure that you are not absorbing over 70% of the heat or your glass could break.

that doesnt apply to you, lol.

    your 100% stock anyways, remember,

just pointing it out since some might not know there is tint laws of they want to comply with that or at least know what they are.

at the end of the day, do whatever you want, HA

correct, my 80 on the windshield is the same as my 35 on the side windows as far as heat reduction, its all 99% block UV for the quality stuff no matter the tint darkness.

I remember back in the 90s when you could buy tint spray to tint your windows with. Bet that worked really well, lmao

Hyundai was having a lot of trouble in AZ with their panoramic roofs blowing up from the heat. Reason I had my sun & moon roof tinted to help with the heat. Don't use either and didn't want them, but there they are. I do go to AZ during the summer and didn't want any problems with the roof blowing up . Don't know if that's an issue there with Toyota's as I haven't heard anybody from AZ complain about it. But I do know you have to try keeping your drain channels for your moon roof clear as dirt & grim can turn into a mud and clot your drain ports and leak into your cab.

I’m here in Tucson, I have 20% black ceramic on the sun roof and the black headliner. No issues so far but I also haven’t seen my truck in 8 months so hopefully it’s still in one piece. I was advised to not go darker then 20% on it because the shop I went to had seen several with 5% come back cracked.

I dont see much point to having a moonroof if you tint over it with 5%. I do like to have some light output from it, just prefer to not burn my head, or have sun sneaking in behind my sunglasses frames from the top.

@eddiefromcali If you are in California, not sure if you know this or not but you don't have to remove the tint.

Speaking from my own personal experience, in California tint is a fix-it ticket and not many know this, but you don't have to fix-it.....You can just pay the fine of the ticket and leave it on. Of course you run the risk of getting another ticket for tint, but the fine to leave it on is typically cheaper than paying to get the tint redone or even to have it removed in some cases. I think the last ticket I got for tint was like $178 to just pay the ticket and do nothing.

That my plan hopefully soon along with front windshield. Not sure to get either tint on the inside or the new one for the outside to help with rock chips.
We enjoy the ceramic windshield on my wife 2018 jeep grand cherokee

    Llumar IRX ceramic here:
40 on the pano roof and rear windows
30 on the rear slider and front windows
    50 on the windshield

    Love it, no issues.
Plenty of heat rejection on the roof, but still lets light in.
I don't have any issues at night with the windshield, but I wouldn't want to go any darker.
