Fixed an identical spot on my truck. Just make sure you clean it well and use a good primer, and your paint should stick just fine.

Got one. Clicked the link a minute ago and they had some 150A sequoia alternators in stock. And I was able to pay with cash back points! Now if only
I had a dead Sequoia core I could send back and recoup some $$.

Just curious, what made you want the 150A alternator? I thought you had a relatively new 130A.

My speedometer is intermittent at times. It really doesn't strike me as a sensor issue, but more of a wiring issue due to the intermittent-Niss of it. Description below.

Thoughts from the group? Sensor, wiring, or anther bad ground?

Speedometer is DOA most of the time but springs back to life randomly with seemingly no rhyme or reason. No similar environments that I've noticed. Sometimes it'll hold for 30 minutes or more, sometimes the needle jumps around like a mud cricket on crack.

I'd like to get to the bottom of this before I ruin the gears in my instrument cluster. I haven't had the time to crawl under and see what it looks like

If it sounds electrical, can someone help me find this circuit in the EWD?

Or does this sound like a bad sensor? Rockauto has flavors to choose from, if so.

Is there a test in the FSM? I've lost the link to it recently, as that was a phone ago.

Just need help pinpointing, TIA to all. :)

I do have relatively new 130A. This is for potential future upgrades. Gotten burned on a couple other NLA parts, not gonna happen on this one.

    …….

Ugh. American Airlines jet (Eagle) just collided with a military chopper (white hawk or black hawk) approaching the runway at DCA an hour or so ago. 60 on board the plane, I believe from Wichita KS. Not looking like any survivors, they’re pulling bodies out of the Potomac currently. Hope all you guys and yours are safe.

I remember seeing people bitching about military choppers doing this over the last year, encroaching on runways, causing diversions, etc. Was mostly Coasties at the root of the complaint. This f’n sucks man…

Isn't the 150a a direct swap in the later year trucks? If so your tundra alternator should satisfy the core requirements. Just in case your sitting on a pile of them.

I kept my original 130A when I installed the 150A. Have thought about seeing how much it would be to have it rewound for higher output.

That's an option? Like, could I do that on my 100A to not change connectors?

Rewinding stators is definitely a thing in the dirt bike world to be able to run headlights, I imagine it could be done to an alternator stator by someone who knows what they're doing.

It's not a direct bolt on for our trucks. Different mounting ears.

I'm still not sure if this is really a need. I've not had any issues with my 100A but I don't really have many accessories. Just aftermarket fog lights. I wonder if anyone is running a winch on their 100A alternator.

This is a big deal. First fatal commercial crash since 2009. Despite this, flying is still the safest form of transportation by far.

You either grind off the 3rd ear or get that bolt that @Tundra2 found, then swap the connector. Ezpz.

Yup. OEM is original equipment manufacturer. I’m still trying to figure out where to buy the Toyota tires that came with my TRD though……

Not aensinf back a Denso 130A with 5k-10k miles on it. I could sell it for $100 easily, versus a $75 core, doesn’t make sense.

It was military helicopter pilot error, and it cost 60-70 lives. This commentary chain may put it into perspective, what happened. There are likely some other variables at play, but don’t want to go there in public.

Yeah, if I max it out, I'm at 83.33 amps on the amps alone. Add 110w for headlights, etc, I'm running out of juice fast.

Not really. There’s the clip ons (eww, gross) and the Dodge mirrors. As in the early 2000s flip up moose horn dodge mirrors. The mounting point is similarly shaped (needs some modification to look like it belongs) and two of the three bolts line up, so some modding needs to be done there too. Watcha towing?

There's a thread or two on it, but I don't want to link it.

@KNABORES covered it but I'd add a tl;dr - Some adapted mirrors from a couple other trucks. None actually fit right, you've gotta drill up your truck to even mount them, then silicone the fuck out of things to make it mostly watertight. It potentially looks cool from 20ft, and may work somewhat, but once you get closer, it looks pretty tacky.
