Personally, I'm a no go on anything when it comes to trail rides. I come from a family of alcoholics/drug addicts. I do partake occasionally, but never on a trail. I've wheeled with folks who do, and I use an air of caution with them.

I wasn't aware of them. I'll look into it.

Just had a discussion with an acquaintance about gun confiscation and they asked me how a bunch of rednecks with rifles, shotguns and pistols were gonna outgun the military. I laughed hysterically for a bit, wiped the tears from my eyes, then explained that
    1. Military equipment is useless without military personnel, nobody is going to war against civilians
    2. The government wouldn't kill us all, they need us to be good little sheep and they wouldn't destroy their own infrastructure trying
    3. Guerilla warfare is a thing and they can't fight if we attack from behind their own lines and take out their support. Tanks and jets are pretty useless without fuel trucks and ammo.

What this person doesn't realize is just how bloody and downright insane civil wars get. Most people have no conception of well, violence. Revenge, atrocity, payback when one has nothing at all to lose. This person is clueless.

Point 1 is incorrect. Recent events, 2020 to 2023, prove that most in uniform will do whatever they are told, period. Might not like it, but they'll do it. They'll regret it later, but they'll go along. They did.

*Most people, those not in uniform, will go along and very often, advocate and demand it. They did.

If there comes a day that we all need to take up arms against our government/fellow citizens/family members, and run a successful insurgency, you all can come back here and I'll graciously take your told-you-so's.

Won't be possible due to power being out, no food, etc. You might have time to think it though. You might be too busy advocating for them all to be put to death and fast.

Look no further than things what were posted on social media about "them" from 2020 to 2023. What those on TV demanded be done about "them" and the millions that couldn't tune in enough to hear it. The world got a really good look how things will go down. The world also got a good look at just how the Nazis got the Germans to go along with everything they demanded. Propaganda is a powerful thing. Fear is harnessed and people do whatever they are told.

America was won every battle yet lost the war in South Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. So yes, it can be done.

I'm hoping people learned enough from the Plandemic to not fall or it a second time, the only vaxxers I know that have said "they'd take all the shots over again" have either had serious heart attacks or been deathly ill (from the yearly coronavirus). Hopefully that lesson will extend to other such psyops in the future.

To be fair, modern wars are intended to be forever-wars to keep the gravy train rolling. And when one “ends,” have the next one lined up and ready to go.

So re-reading this thread has got me thinking…..please bear with me as it may get a little long.

There are contingents on both sides of this topic that see things as strictly black and white. Either you support the 2A and allow for the “freedom” or you don’t believe that any citizen has the right to own firearms. It’s the “pry them from my cold dead hands” crowd or the “lock them all up and keep them out of the public”.

Like all things in life there may be gray - I was diving home from work on a beautiful spring day last year. HUGE highway stretch and pretty congested but not to a point where it was bottlenecks or stop and go. Out of my rear view I see a motorcycle weaving in and out of traffic at an extremely high rate of speed. He would periodically have to slow down and maneuver through crowded areas. As he approached me while lane splitting, the wind was pulling up his shirt where he had a pistol tucked into his waist band. No holster - just tucked into his belt. He would speed up to speeds in excess of 100 mph and then weave in and out, go on the shoulder, split lanes, etc. In witnessing this, I will be honest and thought to myself “this is a really irresponsible mother f-er.” Also thought if he was that poor of a driver, and willing to put himself and others at risk for no reason at all, then what kind of gun owner is he? Jumping to conclusions???? Maybe.

Driving is a privilege bestowed on people who complete a course requirement and meet a certain age requirement. The ability to purchase a car is earned by the eventual owner through working and paying for the privilege to do so. And completing the above does not automatically guarantee you the right to continue driving. Tickets, violations and accidents could cause your ability to drive, whether you own a car or not. There are defined laws that are created to ensure the safety of yourself and the general public.

I am an owner of several guns, have my ccw in the majority of the states in the country and have taken dozens of classes related to firearms because I am interested and it’s fun. BUT I also don’t subscribe to the belief that people should be walking around with huge long guns and multiple pistols on their hips just “because they can”. I don’t like to advertise my guns in many places around where I live because it’s such a polarizing topic AND because I feel extremely safe - I simply don’t see the need to carry (concealed or otherwise). That’s a personal preference. I could imagine situations where people don’t have that luxury and feel the need to have that level of protection. But similar to driving, couldn’t there be some form of minimum expectation of a level of training / safety course to “qualify” someone for gun ownership? Or the manufacturers of each offer a “Tutorial” class to familiarize people with the safe operation of the firearm? Maybe build that into the purchase price???? Slippery slope? Perhaps……but the nuances and intricacies of operating a firearm are pretty extensive and simply being able to purchase a firearm and ammunition and trying to figure it out for yourself isn’t ideal in my opinion - for the consumer or the public.

I guess my point is, the debate is never really a debate because the hard liners on each side will say “there should be no qualifications to it because it’s in the constitution” and the others side will say “nobody should have the opportunity to own firearms because they’re an obvious danger to society”. I feel like the reality lies very far in between, but we likely will never get there because of the polarization and politics. Not everyone who owns firearms is shooting people and keeping guns off the streets completely won’t stop people, especially the criminals, from getting them.

I guess my point being is that 2A or not….whatever side of the fence you are on, inherently the right to bear arms comes with a responsibility. And morally or legally, we all have different definitions of what that responsibility should contain.

Training isn't required for speaking. The first amendment ensures that and makes free speech our right, not privilege. Likewise, training shouldn't be required to exercise our equal right of owning and bearing arms, which is the very next amendment and makes it as much of a right (not privilege) as free speech.

Gun rights are human rights, as a certain pro-2A talking head likes to say; and all gun laws are unconstitutional. And I agree. If there are people out there who can't be trusted with guns, those people likely committed a crime and they should be in jail, and remain there until they can be trusted again. Letting felons out who are still a danger to society is part of the problem.

No one's free speech is ever infringed upon because some other dumbass, somewhere, decided to yell BOMB in a packed movie theatre. Likewise, no one should have their rights to guns infringed because some other dumbass, somewhere, decided to commit a crime with one.

Yeah....I'm pretty black and white with this. But so is the Constitution.

The people I know that carry a weapon do training often. A lot of states have minimum requirements to have a CCW (class/range time).

It's smart & right to choose to train & know how to handle a firearm. I learned the old fashioned way - my family taught me when I was a kid. Many people didn't have that passed down, so sure - take some classes if they want. But laws that require it are infringing the right. I see that it's kind of a double edged sword...bc then you can have people walking around who don't know how to use a weapon safely (I do see the gray in the argument, but the consequences are too great imo to not let a black & white policy/belief overrule it). Let society donk the unsafe knuckleheads on the head then, I guess. But I'm gonna err on the side of freedom to keep ass-clown legislators away from passing anything. There's too many of them whose chief aim is to either eradicate the 2A, or restrict guns as much as possible.

Im not anti gun and i dont own any, at this time. Not sure i even know any anti gun folk. LOL

I spent 8 years in the National Guard as an 11b10 and have my share of experience
    with the weapons of the era i spent enlisted (45, 16, 60, 50cal, M72a1, M47 Dragon).

Its been my choice not to purchase, even though sometimes i think I should but, im now 63
and havent had a need or desire to, so why change now. Even if i did purchase, i would seek out
an indoor range and get my practice in before during and after purchase.

My oldest son just purchased his first hand gun, not even sure what it is.
I asked if he took any ccw classes and he said no (not required dad) then i asked if he is getting in
any practice at the indoor/outdoor ranges and he said "he intends to". Not sure how i feel about that !

told him he better get in there and start getting to know his new weapon before he kills himself
or someone else because he's a newbie.

Us law abiding citizens aren't the problem and we all know who is. Unfortunately its the sick, lame, lazy and outright crazy
folks who make it hard for the rest of us to own an AR15 if thats what we choose, becasue they just shot up a place using one.

    This.

Something to consider is that guns are illegal in Mexico, and apparently there’s no gun related crime there, so outlawing firearms obviously works, as my stepdad likes to point out.

you can actually legally take a gun to mex for hunting trips. Just a little paperwork in advance before going south.

I agree with this 100%. It's harder to renew a drivers license than CCW in a lot of cases.

This is what's great about America. You can decide for yourself if something is a good fit for your life.

This is what's not great about America. I do find it troubling that citizens purchase a gun and "get around to it" (like never) for training. Kinds like when guys say "yeah, I'm going to get a vasectomy" and what do you know...a new born at 47 years old. (Know two like that). If you watched the video I posted earlier today, it was very evident the victim had very little experience with the .45 ACP and the recoil. Let's be honest, the way it was held probably no experience at all. John Wick movies are awesome, but in reality most people don't know the amount of hours Keanu spent a Taran Tactical under the instruction of highly skilled professionals.

It's kinda like the distracted driving issue with cell phones. I wish it was mandatory that all devices in motion over 25-35 mph would go inoperable. I'd like to think people will do the right thing....but the statistics say otherwise. On the flip side, I also don't wanna give up any freedoms I have. Fine line.

Cell phones that don't work if moving would be great.....until you're driving and just need to call someone, like the police! LOL

I have a blue tooth in every car I own. I keep it in some handy place, put it in when I go, take it out when I get there. Otherwise, no blue tooth.

Let's require extensive training for all the other rights. Let's charge for it too, because "safety."

To quote The Civil Rights Lawyer of Youtube fame, "freedom is scary, deal with it."

Am I the only person on the internet that's never seen a John Wick movie????? I guess it's so ubiquitous you can use it as a reference that everyone understands........I can guess the context though.

On the plus side of the video referenced above.....even with the victim's very bad technique, he still defended the house and defeated the bad guy! Not only did the home invader run off but he did it with slugs in him.

That's got to be wayyy cooler than John Wick. No training, no technique, and still wins? Maybe guns are easier to use than we all thought.

He didn't win either. He took slugs...so did his girlfriend. "Got Lucky" is the term you were looking for sir.

All three took bullets and lived. Not sure where his GF got hit in the back, but I can guarantee he won't be walking right again with a shattered foot. Don't care about the home invader, so I hope it hurts for the rest of his life.

We just have different opinions of winning I guess. That's ok. :hattip:
