Looks like it got hit with a small piece of debris and then started around that point

Hard to tell from the picture because of the salt but there are also a bunch of smaller places where its pealing. I don't see an actual impact mark. It started as a bubble and it all flaked off after going through the car wash. The other side is bubbling up also.

I have the same thing, think its common. I got one side replaced early on & now the other side has started. I’ve put 45K miles on though and traveled some rough dirt/gravel roads though.

Wondering if there is any link between plastic on our Tundra's and the Lexus GX 550... Cause the GX550 making the news because plastic components are melting in the sun. I realize this photo is not melting, but delimitation, but ... wasssup with the plastic on our Toyotas?

It’s called cheap plastic. The cracked seat panel and numerous squeaks and rattles in these trucks is a dead giveaway. Toyota went cheap to make a killing on these things, just like almost every other manufacturer.

Unfortunately I have to agree. I had such high hopes for this truck and was so pumped when I got it. Seems like every other month there's something else wrong with it.

My son’s chrome mustache is starting to bubble after 13 months. He’s not gonna bother asking since he’s gonna paint his match, like mine came with. Luckily, my painted mustache is holding up well thus far.

yet another reason why chrome sucks

I had mine removed and replace with color match, still looks perfect.

that said, I sure hope they take care of these fellas, seems like a covid level part chroming plating job

The problem is, it’s fake chrome now. It’s over plastic and it just doesn’t hold up on anything. I don’t know why auto manufacturers are still so obsessed with chroming everything. I assume the fake chrome is cheaper than paint?

I happen to be in the minority that likes the chrome on my truck. Maybe it's an age thing.

My 2023 chrome is still like new. I wonder if there's an environmental aspect to this problem? I live in the dry west where auto paint finishes tend to last longer, in general.

My son and I live in Phoenix. It’s dry, but it’s hot as blazes. I think the heat here is what causes the finish to bubble.

^ If I were in this situation, this would be the way to go..
My first thought was to replace it with color-matched.

@Mattaqua Bumpershellz makes painted covers if that is an option.
Might be cheaper than painted OEM parts.

I have their bumper covers over the OEM chrome on my 2014..

Anyone have a good source for paint-matched OEM surround? Got my blue print in 2022 and at the time, they were only offering the grey or chrome. Now I see paint matched moustaches everywhere. I think the newer years might come with paint match already?

I would take it to high quality paint shop. I took my fog light bezel to a high end paint shop here in Phoenix and it only cost me $150. It’ll probably last longer than the stock paint.
