If the dealership wants $960 for parts and labor on the TB/WP, that's a really f'n good price, and I'd run with it.

I would make sure they replace the belt tensioner, also. It's great if they did the pulleys too, but ... that's also something you can potentially do.

I think you'll be lucky to find a privately owned/operated specialty shop that'll do it for much better than that price, and I'd hope a stealership is more familiar with that engine model.

Well shit sounds good then. The service tech I’ve been talking too sounds pretty reasonable so I’ll probably show him the aisin kit and just say I want all that done.

Confirm they'll take your parts in advance, before you order. Stealerships won't always take user-supplied parts; they have no way to confirm authenticity or quality of a user-supplied part.

That's actually a killer price, even a non dealer is probably going to run you at least that. There are a couple of other parts, like a tensioner, couple of pulleys that should be replaced at the same time and are part of the Aisin Kit. I'd make sure the dealer is including those too.

I provided my own parts when I had my frame swap done. I let them supply timing belt and whatnot. They did charge nearly $150 for the idler and the tensioner EACH, which they didn't really disclose to me until after. My frame swap was a few years ago, and I'd probably do a couple of things different today if I did it again.

What I'm really trying to say OP is if you can get them to let you supply your own parts then supply the Aisin kit (from Rockauto and not Scamazon) and it should save you a lot in parts cost.

Hey - we’ve all been in OPs situation. If he’s away from his tools and the dealer is there and quoted a decent price, he should do that. I agree with all that doing yourself or using an independent shop is best best but sometimes you just gotta get it done. Maybe OP could tell us where he’s located and someone on this forum may be able to assist.

I’m at school at OU down in Athens Ohio. I’m pretty happy with the dealer so far but I’m open to recommendations if anybody has any.

That’s a great price, I have to admit I was a lil jealous. I believe they charge for 8 hours and the kit is right at $200 so that’s a great price. My biggest problem with dealerships right now is the communication process. They never let you speak directly to who is doing the work and 9 out of 10 times what gets conveyed from the service manager / whoever checks you in. Ends up not being what the tech is told. Plus lot’s of techs have just gotten fed up with all the BS and have found other professions.
