I have a 21 TRD Pro and in my opinion, the headlights are pretty useless on dark mountain roads and high beams are even worse since it cuts out the driving lights.

Started doing research and it seems like people seem to rave about these headlights...Sure they look really nice, but in dark mountain roads, they are very poor. And Im comparing to my 18 year old Tacoma with oxidized halogens. Even my wife's Wrangler with eBay LED upgrades work better than the Tundra. Neither of us even use the high beams on the other 2 vehicles because we have no issues seeing with low beams.

So, is there any upgrade that improves light performance? I have a light bar, but the switch is not really conducive to going on and off while driving with oncoming cars.

Look into the Morimoto XBs. Pricey but it'll have a projector. I Have XBs on my 2nd gen, a little different but I haven't have any issues in 5 years with them.

Do you happen to have the headlight level adjustment switch at a number higher than 0? It should be at 0 for normal driving.

If, for example, you have them adjusted to 5 with no load in the bed/no trailer hooked up they would be pointing downwards.

You may want to just make your fog lights super bright. Like I use these diode dynamic lights (when no one is around) that are many times brighter than road legal headlights.

I agree they are a little better on 0 and I have RAS on back cranked up to get the ass end a little higher since the Pro sits ass low when stock. However, I have people flashing brights at me pretty regularly when on 0 so they get adjusted to 2 most of the time. When the dirt bike goes on the hitch rack they get adjusted down a bit.

Yeah, I have a Pro so they are the OEM LEDS. I have considered looking at what it takes to bypass the fog light interlocks to have them on all the time, so Ill look into the Brite Box

hey OP, yup they suck compare to others, I actually thought something was wrong with my headlights when I first got the truck coming from Ram, been looking at retrofit but that's another headache on its own.

Not a a solution, exactly, but I followed the advise of @1lowlife above and ordered the Bright Box Fogster and it made a significant improvement in mountain night driving with high beams now that the fogs stay on

I'm running the Diode Dynamics 42" Stealth Light Bar in the lower bumper grille. I chose the Driving/Flood Combo white lighting. This light really wakes up the night. If you go this route, you'll want to throw away the Diode Dynamics mounting brackets and get the upgrade mounting brackets from Hot Shot Offroad.

@Downytide I don't know your current setup, it's worth mentioning that you cannot run this light bar if you currently have 1/2" bumper spacers installed. The lightbar mounts to the front bumper mounting studs and you can only run 1/4" bumper spacers and this have enough thread to mount this bar.

I haven't touched the lights at all, I bought light bar set up but then wanted to run a winch, which still haven't done, now want to run Baja Design LP9s behind grille with a custom grille, which I still haven't done either lol.

I will also do upgraded fog lights once I've seen Hotshot's upgraded TRd Pro Mounting solution available.

Your dreams are bigger than mine, lol.

The want list is large, the hard part is to justify the wants into needs.

I have had Morimoto's headlights on my truck for a few months, caught them on 20% Black Friday sale (worth the savings) and highly recommend them. I do a decent bit of night driving for work and they are definitely better than the OEM lights. They are quite expensive, though, and adding super bright LED pods to your fog housing location (and only using them as brights) would be a cheaper option.

My least favorite thing about the stock LED units was the beam scatter. I felt like I couldn't see where I was going around sharp turns as the beams primarily point straight forward and had no lateral adjustment. I had a '22 Camry before this and those projectors were fantastic, I wish Toyota had found a way to mount those in Tundra housings and still look cool. Regardless, the Morimotos have lateral and vertical adjustment, which was a huge improvement; it took me an hour of trial and error but they are adjusted to my liking now and the beam pattern is WAY better. They are also a bit brighter than stock.

I run the Diode Dynamics SS3 Pro Max fogs. They absolutely overpower the OEM LED headlights. I never run my high breams.

My windshield is tinted, so things are even darker for me.

I have the 42" DD Stealth light bar, like the one above, too. And will occasionally turn it on.

The stock LED lights on my wife's Wrangler also make me a little jealous, haha.

Brite box looks pretty neat but it appears the only option I have (‘21 Pro with OEM LED) is the Fogster or the Anytime. Not interested in the extra switch for the anytime so curious if anyone is running the fogster?

Yes, based off a suggestion to my original complaint in this thread, I bought and installed the fogster and I'm happy with it. I would have preferred the flexibility of the anytime but also did not want another switch in my cab.

    I can recommend fogster

Completely plug and play. If you go to @RainMan_PNW build thread, he does a write up on installation with some good tips.

Awesome! Thanks! I’m thinking I’ll pull the trigger. Always bugged me when the fogs cut off when running high beams.

Check the build link in my signature.
If you run your light bar with a Switch Pro, it’s really easy to tie it into the high-beam tigger as well. When my highs are on, so are my fogs and my bumper bar and it’s great.
