Yes, they offered either premium semi-metallic or premium ceramic pads for the same price. I put semi-metallic on a different vehicle in the past, much less dust than metallic, but still not as little as ceramic. To address the increased chance of developing brake squealing with the ceramics, the new rotors and ceramic pads came with specific break-in instructions. I followed the instructions to a T and haven't had any issues. Braking performance is a little better then OEM (they aren't beefier brakes or anything, just better heat dissipation), but more importantly has resolved the rotor warping problem due to the crappy logic in the adaptive radar cruise control system.

These front brake rotors are still working great, and still no brake squealing with the ceramic pads. I just ordered a rear set of the same rotors and pads because they are due. Sort of surprising I got 75K out of them. Still running the same factory rotors and pads from when I purchased the truck new in 2022.

    Thanks for the update.

I checked your link and noticed Brake Performance is advertising a substantial discount on these brake kits. Or, are those "Sales Prices" the normal price?

Passed 20K mi with no appreciable pad wear or rotor issues. Five 1200mi trips on the I5 with 3 major Mtn passes each time. Adaptive cruise used on these trips except for in the mountains. Too much braking and throttle surging. First time hitting 24mpg avg on last 1200mi trip. (Wife did Not use Adaptive cruise)

With much better situational awareness, I agree with every bit of this

I’m only 6k miles in my 2024, but I’m loving the adaptive cruise with lane assist, at least for long haul interstate driving. Mine seems to accelerate and slow very gently in most situations. If someone is slamming on brakes, I’m retaking full control already.

Tint and wheels. Decked box in the bed. S and B Cold Air filters under the hood. Shiftpower throttle response controller.
I have no problem with it after the potentially deadly adaptive cruise control on my gen2.5.Tundra!!! :angrygirl:

They're having a sale. I paid $100 more for the slotted and drilled rotors and pads in Mar 2024 than what they're advertising now.

My adaptive cruise warped my front rotors in the July heat in Chicago. Toyota's adaptive cruise and lane centering is terrible compared to Honda's. My Honda Odyssey stays in the center of the lane with no noticeable swaying in the lane, and no aggressive braking when someone turns into your lane with enough room to coast instead of brake

Congrats! 24 MPG is fantastic for a 1/2 ton truck!

I believe the Adaptive cruise uses RR brakes, not front…

Toyota still putting bread cart braking systems on these? I have a 2nd gen that I warped both rear rotors on during a single hard stop from 60 MPH. Braking performance overall was pretty poor. I replaced the front rotors with EBC units and EBC yellow pads, stock rear rotors and new calipers and a fluid flush. It now stops like it hits an arresting cable on an aircraft carrier. Vastly better pedal modulation and it will put you into the shoulder belts with not much effort.

I guess I'll be doing the same thing if I have a hard emergency stop in my new 3rd gen.

Spartan fan is on point here, just had my 20k service at 19k, front pads are 7mm rears 4mm and I don't use the Adaptive mode much but never had a vehicle period that wore the rear brakes faster than front. That automatic electric parking brake motor you can hear as you walk away is another sign that they over engineered that too, which means down the road more expensive maintainance when that starts sticking or fails, triggering the Toyota Christmas Tree of "why the heck did they do that"...if I want to set the parking brake I'll do it MYSELF. We are really getting more complex systems with no real benefit but guaranteed revenue for the shop. I thought the Europeans had a monopoly on that but nope. My 2006 Ridgeline went 140k on original rear brakes 1 set of pads up front. Safety Nazi's are out of control and we are too lazy or stupid to care.

I’ve not measured these 3rd gen pads when new but I’ve done f/r brake pad changes on many trucks & cars and the fronts are always thicker than rears when new.

You can turn the auto feature off. Just put your foot on the brake and push the e-brake button in for 3 seconds.

So one here mentioned in subzero weather not using them to prevent freeze up. Good idea. Same basic system used across all brands.

I happen to like the auto e-brake. I have a steep driveway with a manual livestock gate that requires getting out of the truck to open and close it. The auto e-brake takes a step out of that process. It's also very smooth and seamless when it engages and disengages.

I also cannot hear any e-brake motor when I walk away from my truck.

I like it too. Self adjusting and always applies proper force. No more cable stretch. Motor is done when the Red BRAKE light comes on 1-2 secs after shifting to Park. Way before getting out.

Sorry guys maybe I'm old fashioned or just old but to me it's needless tech for techs sake. If you're too lazy to engage a parking brake when you need it or have to disable it when you don't want it that's just ridiculous. Adds cost on purchase and on service and makes DIY needlessly complex. Same with the adaptive cruise. Retaining situational awareness is part of the responsibility of driving on public roads. I can't believe folks will pay Tesla $10k for "autopilot" either. Honestly one of the few things that should be illegal. It's not an airplane, it's a car or a pickup.

You are certainly entitled to your opinions, even if they are wrong. :p

I'm 63 years young. To me, the auto e-brake is a huge improvement over the old manual cable style. It's one of the few nanny tech features that I think Toyota got right.

Part of my bias is because I was nearly killed when my old Jeep CJ's e-brake cable broke while I was opening my gate. I was literally inches from being run over, or pinned between the Jeep and the gate.

We are the same age Matt, tomorrow I'm 64 ha ha. Technology is what it is and the market demands it today, I get it. Honestly I'm one of those dumbasses that lets the parking pawl hold and never use a parking brake in an automatic car or truck unless on a steep grade. I destroyed my rotator cuff a few months ago so while in the sling for 6 weeks I didn't use my seatbelt at all. My sister got in when I visited and she asked me how I buckled in. I told her I don't. Turned off the chime with a Carista. She looked at me funny but knew there was no point in scolding me lol. I value personal freedom above authority every time. Life is a gamble every day and I don't need or want the "govment" telling me how to live my life. I vote, registered for the draft way back when, and still pay too much in taxes. The Wussification of the world is just out of control.

I accidentally disabled my auto parking brake, and turned it back on. You can disable by:
“While the vehicle is stopped and depressing the brake pedal, press and hold the parking brake switch until a buzzer sounds and message is displayed on the multi-information display.” Toyota owners manual.

I use the adaptive cruise most the time, the exception being when sensor doesn’t work and it won’t engage. Then I switch to normal cruise control. However, whenever adaptive cruise is on, my thumb is on the cancel button for shutting off the cruise control when going downhill or when coming up on traffic before the cruise control hits the brakes. One thing that helps is reducing the following distance. With 3 bars on the display it’s pretty far back so I generally drive with 2 bars. The logic needs work. It will hit the brakes when a car moves into the left lane and slows down even though it’s not in my lane, but won’t hit the brakes when a car crosses in front without sufficient space forcing me to brake.

The auto parking brake is nice… until you need to replace pads and rotors and it can be a PITA and add a lot of work to the process. ;)
I believe most OEMs are somewhat similar on the PITA scale too….
