I saw one post mention even Houston could get some but that may not be accurate.

 

They kind of did though,125 million chickens have been culled because of Avian flu since 2022. The large facilities will kill all the birds to prevent the spread to other birds since it infects wild birds as well.

Now I'm not saying that the price hasn't also been artificially inflated.

It's supposed to snow down here on Friday. I'll believe it when I see it. We get false alarms all the time.

But if we do, it'll be my first TITS.

 

It's been way too cold at night this week at work. Supposed to stay cold for the next two weeks or so.

 

Factory farms, gross. Disease spreads fast in those places and they basically cause it by stuffing as many animals as they can into large barns and let them live in their own waste.

 

Saw this on Reddit. Gotta admire the craftsmanship.

 

That's all fine and dandy, and it's a fun narrative to justify the prices staying high, but realistically it hasn't even put a dent in egg production. USDA tracks those numbers pretty fervently.

The numbers don't lie. Note these are in hundreds of millions, so there's far more whitespace below than these graphs lead-on. You're talking about a 4% drop in product at worst (388mil laid in 2023 down to 376mil eggs laid per year in 2024). That doesn't justify a 200%-400% hike in price. The drop leading thru the year may be due to the forced avian-flu cullings, but those cullings clearly haven't put any significant dent in egg production.

And yet, if you look at industry news, for Cal-Maine, Egglands Best, and other investors-in-egg and egg producers, the last couple years keeps seeing headlines like this one for US Vital, one of the larger domestic egg producers. It's much higher than EB/Cal-Maine/etc. but ... supports the narrative, i.e. you don't see 2000% net (not gross, net!) income increases during a FY because you're making small, market-driven changes. you see hyper-inflated increases because you're hyper-inflating other things...

Speaking of Florida and Reddit, I saw something funny. Someone on Reddit recently asked "There are some regional sobrieties out there, like ... 'California Sober', meaning you quit everything except weed. What's a localized sobriety they'd have for your state?"

Someone replied, "Florida Sober: Where you'll do any drug except meth..." (ballpark recollection)

That truck is well-made, though. It doesn't look like a tweaker did it. I approve.

 

Since its already baffled & seasoned, i figured i’ll do one last brisket before moving my ‘new’ smoker onto the patio.



Also got a piece of mystery freezer meat tucked in the back for polo.

 

Fair enough.

I’m having a hard time believing the back end will make air when it’s only the front end that compresses and acts like a springboard effect.

Somebody out there is looking at it saying, “So that’s how I can get around police spike strips”.

 

Yeah, I can't claim to understand it, but it is pretty wild tech, huh?

 

Now fill it with water when you're done and let it freeze. It will crack. Just keep repeating throughout the freeze. If it doesn't crack I'll buy you a beer.

To my understanding, heat doesn't usually crack rocks, however water erodes over time and gets into small fissures. When it freezes, it expands and makes those fissures expand. Repeat it enough times and that rock will crack, assuming it has some fissures. That's what causes rock slides in the hill country.

 

Psssh…old tech. Knight Industries introduced the same exact thing back in 1982.

It'll be more challenging because he heated the rock. Should've kept it filled with water and waited to burn over the rock, until the freezing temps go away in a few weeks.

I totally understand that, I think it’s been done for 1000s of years, but usually with big marble slabs out of the ground.
You’re not in Alaska where the frost line is 3’ down. 2 or 3 nights of below freezing isn’t going to crack shit 2 feet under ground after a blazing hot fire was on top of it, or even not a fire

 

Yep. The earth and rocks especially take a while to cool off. I can’t see water freezing that easily because of it.

 

You have to keep in mind the rock and water have to come to equilibrium before it freezes otherwise it’ll be drawing heat from the rock first.
