Just wanted to inform all to check condition of your grounding strap from transmission to body. My strap was corroded and broken at one end. Installed a temporary cable till I get a beefier one made up.

Ground straps, eternal pain. I replaced all of them in my 20 y.o. car that lives all its life in New England. And added two more beefy grounds to strategic points, like the starter.

The wire size doesn't need to be large as there is virtually no current through it so your fix looks like it should be perfectly good. imho.

Add some heatshrink tubing with adhesive inside to both end of your cable and call it a day. I also made my own.
