That's one crazy piece of engineering. I come from old school, a 2bbl or 4bbl carb sitting atop the motor that resides in a compartment that you can swing your legs into while sitting on the fender to change out the air filter and PCV valve.no wonder they put these covers atop of all of this to not scare us off, lol.

They said only the AC compressor, starter, and alternator are reused

Big change from the gargantuan heads of the UR series. I guess I just have to trust they’re in there somewhere!

all i see is could, can

there is nothing concrete, i am looking for solid evidence like, namebrand vehicle had xyz recall, owner ignored it, then xyz happened, and xyz was outcome

all that screen shot post was just random internet dribble, which may or may not be true, just looking for more solid evidence to support your claim

You might want the harness off your old engine as the new engine assembly does not come with one.

Haha. Does oil touch the harness? Next time I’ll make a more exhaustive list of components

Pretty sure it doesn’t touch the alternator or ac compressor either. :boink:

When you consider that a Service Director argued with someone on Facebook about the engine assembly already having a harness installed, yes, probably best to be as exhaustive as possible. The documents on NHTSA even say to transfer the harness.

Can someone please explain to me why me service advisor stated that they have not started on the remedy for this recall yet? I was wondering where my August of 2022 built 22 Limited was planned to be addressed.

I even called Toyota of America and was told the same thing.

I’m really wondering what is going on.

Not sure anyone here can explain why your dealership has failed to start what others have already begun.

You would be in the 3rd Phase.

The remedy has more assuredly started. They started back in October with trial runs.

Why would Toyota of America say the same thing is what I am questioning.

Not a response that they are being done in phases or anything other than there is no recourse as of yet.

Never mind , obviously it would be completely on the manufacturer as the owners don’t have to do anything .

Going to start my fighting with Toyota next week for extended warranty. I'm sure it's going to be fun but if they are ripping a motor out of my truck I want extended coverage for their poor engine design.

It really shouldn't just be for the engine, either. All those harnesses getting disconnected, opening the coolant and air conditioning systems, etc. My last Toyota I never had to open or service the air conditioning system for the entire 15 years I owned it. After this sort of work, it is unlikely that this one will be as reliable going forward.

What if Toyota was offering new Tundras with the option to completely replace your motor 2-3 years later with a brand new crate motor installed by the dealer? At no added cost.

I get it’s not all original anymore more but feel like it’s a killer deal that folks would be in line for. Be nice to see less negative speculation on here.

This is how I am looking at it. I am positive some dealer is going botch a few, hope that on no one, but remember they swapped some 225,000 frames on their trucks. I never really heard too many horror stories from that. I am positive we will never hear the end about the 20-30 botched ones and next to nothing about the 100,000 they will do well (and maybe even more than that).

Every single month, I work a minimum of 19 straight days including weekends. By about day 12 of 19 of putting in 10+ hours a day, I'm exhausted. The last thing I want to do is mess around with car dealerships(which have a well earned reputation of being scumbags), Toyota corporate, car rental places, etc...Some people have all the time in the world to fiddle fart around at the dealership, the rest of us don't.

This is why some people "whaa" about the engine replacement. It's not just about Toyota making things right it is also about fitting in all the resulting bs/time sink that comes along with it into people's busy lives and work schedules. Oh and there's the part about not knowing if and when the engine will take a massive dump.

If you can't comprehend that and put yourself in other people's shoes for a minute, well you will never understand why people are upset about all of this crap. You also will never understand why so many of us are standing on the sidelines and not buying a Gen3 because we are waiting for everything to play out so we can make the most informed decision possible on if the Gen3 is even a good fit for our needs/lives.

While I support the idea that you guys can come here and give your opinions, as clueless as you sometimes seem, I fail to see what the point is doing such in a thread intended to share info on the status of our engine replacements. So, start another thread about how bad the 3rd gens are and how stupid we all are for buying them and all you guys can have at it and pile on. But, posting such in this thread is just juvenile trolling. But then that's your intent,
