Hey all! Just picked up a brand new SR5 TRD Sport and realized there was a very small rock chip or something in the rear left door. During the sale they put it on a due bill and said they’d take care of it. In your mind is this sufficient for a brand new truck? Added a dab of touch up paint and called it fixed.

I’m back and forth. Part of me thinks I’m being insane, but also, unless they touch it up, wet sand it, then level it, it will never be as good as new, which it seems like they don’t want to do, but the truck is new.

Dr Color Chip may look better/level it better if I just do it myself? Yes it’s “just a truck” but I need it to last for a long time as it’s the most expensive vehicle I’ve ever bought (as I’m sure is most of us Gen 3 owners cases)

Don’t revoke my tundra owner card, just curious what others think since it’s new.

unfortunately, more common than it should be. They will fix it - just check it close when they are done and if it is not correct then let them know it is not factory fresh and to try again. Just be glad they/you caught it before you left the lot.

Dr color chip works great; I would order it and call it a day.

I already took it in, and this is the fix. It was white, so to the metal? They hit it with a touch up paint and said it shouldn’t crack, mostly the white one’s paint cracks…

Trying to decide if I’m too anal or I should push them to actually fix it further. The manager who talked to me when I took delivery said “paint, wet sand, some wax” which is what I was expecting too. Part of my wonders if I ask for more if they’ll just make it worse.

Me doing dr colorchip may be less of a headache I’m thinking, but again, maybe I’m insane.

Just included the fob as size reference. It’s small, just worried about what happens with it as the truck ages.

It'll just get more. Make them give you some free oil changes or something and call it a day. I got 2 chips on mine the first week I had it and last week I found a scratch all the way across the top where they cut the plastic off.

A good detail shop, or an auto body shop, should be able to make it disappear.

Touch it up or leave it be. The factory clear is so thin that any attempt to make that 100% disappear is going to open a can of worms. Eventually you get the whole door painted (probably by a hack on the cheap) leaving you with an ugly sparkly spot and broken paint everywhere there’s a clip. Assuming they care enough to do a full tear down rather than masking everything or trying to spot it in.

I had to have a Firebird door painted when I bought one in 99. It had a pretty sizeable scratch right across the line that runs down the side of the car. Hard to describe the area but it was very prominent. Anywho, the dealer put the repair on a "we owe" form when I was doing the paperwork. I I later took it in to get fixed. They tried touchup paint. They did a God awful job. You could see the repair from 30' away from the car. They were a little upset that I made them paint the entire door. They didn't have a body shop so they had to send it out to get painted. It was in a bad area.

But if they do a good job with touch up I would be fine with the size of your ding. Make 'em try to fix it.

I'd think they could do a better job than that - but if not maybe see if they will give you the touchup paint for your own use. Otherwise I guess you could try the DR Color option which you mention. At least it would be done to your satisfaction.
