Headlight boot question

I was reading that it's necessary to cut the boot but I didn't have to. My mini projectors fit without cutting, I just pushed the boot down screwed the fan on then the boot resealed. No water got in or condensation. Also I was reading because I wanted to know how to make my mini projectors brighter.

 

brighter? They're as bright as they're gonna be unless you have alternator/battery issues.

I’ve never seen anyone have to cut the boot? Where’d you read that? My boots fit perfect on the mini projectors. But adjusting the level properly against a backboard, on level ground, at proper distance is critical to operations. There are ample videos online showing this, and posts here also.

Brightness of the pair most people are buying under various names (CO Light/BraveWay/etc.) is already 2x-3x what I was getting out of halogens. Any brighter and I'd be worried about heat, melting down the housings. You don't get more output without more heat, so I would meter your desire for "brighter" when the mini projectors are so bright already, if properly installed and adjusted, of course.

Next brightest step-up would be moving to a full projector retrofit, which is outside the scope of many people's comfort. That's where I was going to go, I've done it on other vehicles, then someone plugged the mini projectors, and when I installed, I was so happy with the output I wouldn't dare bother spending the 3-5 hours time to build my own full-size projectors.

At the end of the day, it's all you and what you're willing to invest. There is 100% a point of diminishing returns, and if you don't have certain supplies, like Morimoto retrofit sealant, there's a bit of upfront cost.

 

I do plan on doing a projector retrofit when I get a new truck. I might buy higher watt mini projectors. The ones I'm running right now are on the low end.
