Several months ago, maybe a year ago I had the Secondary Air Injection codes. Talked to a Toyota mechanic who told me, don’t worry about it, as long as it’s running fine.

Last week, my transmission went out. Paid $3,500 to rebuild it. Picked it up, drove fine that night. Next day it went out again.

They told me it was related to the injection system. They are now putting the bypass kit on, and redoing the transmission again.

Anyone ever heard of these issues being related?

I'm no expert either but it sounds like it might be limp mode causing you to think the transmission went out...... I mean unless its grinding or jumping out of gear, or it spilled its guts out somewhere... I mean with some of the stories I've heard from shops recently I wouldn't say I'm completely surprised...

When my AIP went, my truck wouldn't kick down at all when you buried the pedal. Did maybe 55mph tops. Engine ran normal but shifting patterns, etc was all jacked up.

Have never heard the two being related. Curious if it was in limp mode as mentioned.

Mmmm sounds like limp mode... computer will override transmission ECU to lessen damage on transmission and drivetrain limiting power...

Sound like limp mode. Just experienced lip mode due to AIP myself last week. First day light came on for stuck open AIP valve 1 bank 1 it ran and drove fine. Next morning truck wouldn't pull up a hill at all, pulled over reset code and made it to work fine. Reset code before I left work and truck ran fine. High RMPS and no motion seems like tranny is going out when in limp mode as others have said. $20 AIP Prevent "feature" installed this morning, no codes and runs find so far.

Edit: @BigB79 Sound like coincidence or in limp mode after rebuild. Any CEL's after rebuild?

Sounds like repeated scams, taking your money for a transmission. They probably unhooked your battery, reset limp mode and took all that money for a transmission. Then would shift fine for about one day and go back into limp mode. For 5 minutes of "work" they billed for a transmission. Thats criminal. If a mechanic actually replaced a transmission that was only in limp mode, thats not much of a mechanic.
