I installed a pair of RCI rock sliders back in June or July and am already getting spots of rust on them where the powder coat is chipping; is this normal? The only off-roading I've done so far is just driving on Forest Service dirt road, so I haven't been bashing them around or anything. When does something like this that might only be cosmetic become an actual concern?

Hit that with a wire wheel, and then some paint.

Currently that is just some surface rust, but un checked it will eat away the metal and become an issue.

What kind of paint would you suggest?

    Lots of stuff!
I would try some plasti-dip paint on the leading edges. It would be thicker and probably offer some impact resistance. I think you can get this stuff in a brushable format.

It is better that the rocks hit these than the rocker panels!

This is what I use to touch up sliders and skid plates. It matches most black powder coating perfect. Just brush off the surface rust- i usually use a Dremel, then hit it with 2 coats of this. Super fast dry time

I need something that can cure as quickly as possible in cold weather.
