2024 TRD Sport Owner as of today, few more questions!

Thanks to the insight all over this forum I got a smoking deal + promo financing on a 24 TRD Sport with Premium Audio. Loving it so far compared to my 2020 Sierra, and am looking at my first mods and need some advice.

1) Already ordered the Cup Grip, so I'm good there.

2) I liked the steps on my Sierra which were 6in rectangular. With that, and some searching am leaning towards the RB20 Slim or RB30 Original. Any opinions or reasons to go one over the other?

3) XPEL Paint Protection Film. Is seems like the paint on these is as bad as most trucks, so if I plan to keep it a long time, the ~$1200 to protect the painted front end is probably worth it?

4) It's the Sport, so sits a bit lower in the front that stock, but I like the Bilsteins just fine on it. Was looking at the 2.5/1 level from Westcott, but am wondering if I don't just need 2in in the front and leave the back alone? I know quite a few have leveled their sports, so am trying to make the best call. I will run the Geolanders until they're trash ish, then AT4/Ws in stock size, or MAYBE 1 size up.

I'd do the cornfed level and PPF for sure if you plan on keep it for a while. What color?

 

Welcome from West MO. RB20 slims on mine, great look IMO. Only issue I've had living on a gravel road is the front of them is starting to chip. Warranty should cover it just haven't messed with it yet. I put some Rokblokz on it yesterday to prevent future damage

Thank you so much! I WANT the slims but was worried they wouldn't be big enough to function as an actual step? (Size 13, but usually only hit the tip of my feet when I use them to get in). Bedliner or just the black finish?

I've heard the 30s protect against door dings a bit, but not sure if they actually do, and I like the more sleek look if possible.

 

I had to double check myself. I don't have the slims, it's the RB20 regulars. I took a side profile pic for ya. It does block car doors from smacking ya. Bedliner finish

 

Not installed yet, but I have the RB20s in my garage waiting to go on this week. I think they are a good balance of form and function. Thanks for the profile pic and OP welcome to the madness.

 

This helps a ton as I really prefer the taper at both ends. So, RB20 regular it is! Where's everyone ordering? Have a wife and 2 short daughters, so these gotta go on ASAP, lol.

 

One thing I learned about side steps from my Sport - get the mudflaps. I bought some off Amazon. Any little rocks flinging up from the tires are extremely loud against non-retracting side steps. Mine sounded like a pinball machine until I added mudflaps. Also helps protect the paint a bit I suppose. Rain was so loud hitting the steps it was miserable!

A quick search shows a bunch around the same price point.

These look to be the same size as the stock ones I just removed. Trust me, they don't stop rocks from hitting anything. Anyone is free to come grab my old ones. Not gonna lie, I laughed at the rain being loud hitting your steps. What kind of steps are you using?

 

I switched my sport suspension with some TRD off road takeoffs for a not so harsh ride where I live, the bonus was I gained a full inch of lift in the front with the swap. I also found some OR fender flares that I think give the illusion of more lift ‍

 

I wasn’t familiar with the suspension sitting differently based on model. This is good to know. I made a similar swap on my second gen Tacoma. Will need to keep an eye out for some OR take offs.

 

Wonder if the slims are wide enough to prevent door dings too? Gotta order today, no one can get in the truck but me without literal jumping, lol.

 

I had the slims and my size 13s fit just fine. Not sure about the door ding defense.

 

I was using these steps - another Amazon find. They worked well as steps, but the brackets holding them were like parachutes catching everything from the road. One reason I love my Platinum auto running boards now!
